Interesting review by Bob Grove on the PSR-800 in the April issue of Monitoring Times:
http://www.monitoringtimes.com/0411TOC.pdf

Bob apparently found the database import, sensitivity, selectivity, and recording feature to be top notch, but feels the advanced interface required some study time to understand.

I know two people with them, one loves it, the other wants me to buy it.

I would take him up on the offer.

This thing takes a little tweaking in some systems but it monitors a simulcast P25 system in my area that the Unidens are having problems with. It monitored it out of the box with just a database update.

I've been thinking about buying it, actually, but he wants almost exactly what I can get a new one for, so I don't see the logic in it. If he comes down about 25 bucks or so, I would do it, versus buying a new one, but if he doesn't, I'll just order one instead. It's just too complicated for him.

Yes, MT is a wonderful publication with a personal touch. I enjoyed the article on the PSR 800. I still having the magazine that eventually became MT. I might have to dig pretty deep to find it again. MT has evolved into a wonderful publication. I believe I will eventually purchase the PSR 800 since I heard it can work with Phase II.

I had one for 3 days and it died got it replaced and the SD card died in 2 weeks.. sent it back and just got my money back.. when it comes to sensitivity etc it is the very same as my PSR-500.. I fail to see what the big deal is about this model

Tip: Don't buy any radio based on what you've heard about it. Check it out completely first via the spec sheets which are usually available online. In this case your information is correct because the PSR800 WILL do P25 Phase II, but with so much misinformation around these days I wouldn't trust anyone's "word" on any radio's specs until and unless I had checked them for myself.
