Greetings - I am somewhat new to programming digital trunking scanners. I am trying to program Montgomery County's fire and police system into this scanner and while scanning, I get the 'cant find control channel' display.

What am I doing wrong? I set the system to mot 800 type 2 and set by control channel and listed all the frequencies for the main control channel and alternate control channels.

Do I need to set a band plan as well and what do you think I am doing wrong? thanks for the help!

I have only one other trunking system in it, and that's DC police UHF p25 trunking which I programmed in - that is working absolutely flawlessly.

When I lock out all other trunking systems so it scans Montgomery County only, it simply scrolls "ID SEARCH". Once you push the HOLD button, it stops on an 868.xxxx MHz, which I think is the control channel. When you turn the dial so it goes on one of the talkgroups I programmed in, it just sits there on hold and flashes that it can't find the control channel.

ok - this is different from what you said previously - you said it displays "can't find control channel" but now you're saying it says "ID SEARCH" which suggests to me that it is locked to the control channel.... while in "ID SEARC" mode, when you hit HOLD and there is no one talking, my radio generally stops immediately on the control channel (lots of noise) -- if that is happening then you have the/a/some control channel programmed ok... your have a signal since it's saying "ID SEARCH"...

Only other thing I an think - are you IN Montgomery County? If not, how far are you from Montgomery County?

I was in MoCo earlier and one random TG popped up and I heard a convo loud and clear. Now am in NW DC, very close to the boarder. My location is close enough for me to pick up activity, since I have a govt issued XTS radio which gets that system just fine at my location.

Not sure what's happening down there....

I just entered the Mont Cty system into my 396.

Program System -> NEW
Set it to MOT -> 800 Mhz Standard
Entered the cc freqs
Pushed SCAN - radio went into ID SEARCH mode
got active talkgroups right away
active CC is 868.8625 (RR lists as the primary cc freq)
