I haven't seen an answer to my particular question. I have a Uniden SDS100 with the Uniden BC-SGPS (this is the one that works at 9600 baud). I have determines that the GPS works correctly in sending a GPS position to the radio and the radio will tune itself to the local position provide by the GPS. What I want to do is not use the National Data Base but use my on Favorites Lists. I'll keep this simple. I have a Trunked System that covers a large county. I want 3 Departments, Police, Sheriff and Fire. Each Department has 3 TG's, a dispatch and 2 Tac channels. All the TG functions are labeled. I want to use rectangles to define the areas that these Departments/TG's operate in. I'm using ProScan to load the Lat Longs. I have tried to use 1 large rectangle to define the Site location. The Sheriff needs 2 rectangles to define its area. The FD needs 2 rectangles to define its area and the PD has 4 rectangles. So one large box for the frequency's and several smaller boxes within the big one for the Departments/TG's. The radio will not auto select the Departments /TG as it moves around.

All the Locations Settings are on (everywhere). All the service types are on. What am I missing! or can this not be done? While experimenting I only have 1 FL (the one I'm working with) and I have set a FQK for it. I have not set any SQK's or S/DQK's)

You have to make sure
LOCATION is turned on for each listing in FAVORITE
You have to set the range you want to use
You have to turn on all FAVORITES you want to use
You have to make sure that the FULL DATABASE is off
All of those were already done. The range was set to 0. I might set it to something else, but with rectangles a 0 should be good.

There are two Range settings. One is a global range set via the menu/keypad. The other is set during system programming.

If you have something greater than 0 for the Global Range, that "adds" to the range set for system "stuff". So if you have a Global Range of 10 and 0 for the site rectangle, the site rectangle is 10.

What you want to do and describe is absolutely do-able. I'm not sure I would use a rectangle for the site location, or a large site range value. Radio waves usually do not respect rectangles and are, kinda/sorta circular. The site range value may better work with how far away a site will "throw" a signal.

I have programmed everything in all of my favorites with rectangles, EXCEPT sites.
RF propagation is basically a radio signal radiating from a tower site - a circle.
(We'll leave simulcast for another discussion...)

My rectangles are all built for jurisdictional boundaries. State/county borders, city limits, etc.
The radio switches to the proper stuff as I cross those borders.

Not sure what your problem is my set up just as I posted 2 SDS100's and 1 436HP in my car right now and works as it should as I drive.
I see now you may want to set SQK's or S/DQK's for each of those areas as you are only turning on or off just the Favorite Key setting up the subs and turning on and off the subs should work.

Yes, My global is set to 0. With the site as a circle it is set to 20 and encompasses the whole county area I want to monitor. The rectangle does not use the range setting as I understand it because the rectangle is the boundary. As you cross the boundary it should switch to another site, which could also be the same site just with different TG rectangles.

That is exactly what I have done with the rectangles for the Departments/TG's. But is doesn't automatically switch to a new Department when it crosses the boundary. Do you program the sites where the actually are or do you program a site with a fake location and a range that you want that site to apply to?

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I did this type of thing with my 996's with no trouble, so I thought I had a handle on how to do this but obviously I'm missing something. I do have location on both globally and in Favorites and Departments. The Global range is set to 0 as I don't want to add to any other range settings.

The global range is always used - does not matter if it is a circle or rectangle. If set to 0, then the radio uses whatever the individual object's range is set to.

Think of it this way. If global range is set to 0, the radio switches when it crosses the rectangle/boundary in question. If set to 1, it switches 1 mile before the boundary. I can assure you, if programmed correctly, (and use global = 0), all of my radios switch as I cross those borders. Remember, you can have multiple rectangles programmed for each object. State/county/city borders many times are not simple rectangles, so you can have multiple rectangles that better define the jurisdiction you are interested in.

Sites: I normally just leave the range that is in the RR database. I have adjusted the range on a few under certain (stationary) circumstances where the range is larger than the site's actual RF propagation and it is not receivable at that location (to avoid scanning that site). I also have SQKs programmed if I want to disable a certain site, if needed.

I do not mess with the sites lat/long unless I know the location information is not 100% accurate. Usually by finding the actual site's location on Google Earth and adjusting it's exact location.

Advice... Leave all of your sites lat/long/range alone. Concentrate on the accuracy of your rectangles and/or program site quick keys..

Range works great with rectangles

What am experiencing with a single site that covers the entire county set to a range of 20. A FD Department with 2 rectangles (no ranges to set), a PD Department with 5 rectangles, a Sheriff Department with 2 rectangles, and a Special Events Department with a circle set to 20. When crossing a boundary it does not reload a new department. If I go to menu and back it will load a new Department. So something is not triggering it to load a new area. If I put in a bogus location manually and then plug in the GPS it will use the GPS to load the correct area.

Looks like this

County
Site (Circle Range 20)
FD North (2 Rectangle)
TG
TG
TG
FD South (1 Rectangle)
TG
TG
TG
Sheriff (Circle Range 11)
TG

PD (5 rectangles)

When I got to set a site there is no range setting that I see. Where are you see the rectangle range setting? I see one with the circle.

I have a couple of Departments that are circles. Should there range be 0?

Rectangles by definition define a certain specific area contained within its boundaries and don't have their own range. The rectangle IS the range... With a circle, the lat/long is the center and the range is the radius of the circle.

For departments that are circles, I'd at least start with whatever is in the RR database.
A dept range of 0 and a global range of 0 is telling the scanner to basically not scan that department.

Hint:
ProScan lets you pull your location data into Google Maps and you can actually see your selected location control information. It will also let you 'drag' the various objects size, if you want to change it's range for some reason. It certainly is a good way to see if everything is set up properly.

Yes, I was trying to be nice as I didn't understand what Dave was saying. I'm using ProScan to do this. I have no Dept Ranges as 0 only Global.

The rectange becomes the boundary. So if your scanners range/location overlaps the rectangle, it will scan that site.

No. Departments should have the range they cover. And when your scanners range/location overlaps that dept, it will scan.

When your in @ProScan, try doing one at a time. First do map sites. Then do map groups/depts.
