Hey Folks,
We just got power back on last night in Decatur and the feeds for Morgan County railroad and public safety are now back up. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families who have lost so much during this storm event.

Of course, now that I have posted this, we are having Internet access problems! Likely all related to the large power outages this past week in North Alabama. Sorry for any inconvenience to those who want to listen!

Hey Corey,
Thanks for the kind words. Our bulk power comes from TVA and our local provider is Decatur Utilities. All the problems of last week were at TVA, though, after storms took out many of the bulk transmission towers. City-wide, the damage to the power infrastructure was minimal (few fallen trees and/or branches, service pulled from the house, that kind of stuff). The hold up was mostly waiting for TVA to authorize DU to add load. As more circuits are energized, especially to industrial customers, we get little flickers, etc. If the crews find a problem, they sometimes have to de-energize already hot circuits long enough to fix the problem. We have had little outages from that but they are usually less than 30 minutes.
Things seem to be stable today though! Hope you guys are doing okay, Corey!

Good deal, glad to hear things are getting better. I heard at one point that TVA had lost many of their transmission lines so they had to shut down their generation plants. Those suckers will take a while to get back up.

Browns Ferry Nuclear plant lost power and the plant initiated an automatic shutdown. Generators were able to provide power to operate pumps and safety equipment until the reactors were safely shut down. An, yes, there were a number of high voltage distribution lines that were damaged or destroyed.
