If your scanner is capable of receiving Digital Trunking systems you can listen in on Mun PD 5 as you stated..

Digital and Trunking

Is a trunking scanner the same as a digital trunking scanner and if not which one do I need to get?

NO trunking does not mean Digital, but some systems are both,(morris county for example) look up both digital and trunking in the "wiki" on this web site for all the info you need to learn about both.. and as for where can you buy a cheap unit for monitoring both of the above, maybe used but new a digital scanner isnt cheap mine was just shy of $500 bucks....as for your question which do you need to listen to the morris county system..(M.I.R.S.), you need a unit that is BOTH Digital and Trunking capable here is a link to two units for you to look at

You can save yourself a little money by looking at the Radio Shack site and check out the Pro106 or the Pro197, they are not as high in price as the Unidens, watch for sales on their site and check out your local Radio Shack when they have them.

The pro-197 is an excellent radio. I bought mine on sale from RadioShack - mobile phones, MP3 players, laptops, and more for $289.00 after a $70 off sale plus a online $45 coupon. Regular price was $399 and not all stores keep them in stock.
These new radios can be hand programmed which is a chore, buy the programming software and cable and load it through your computer. The very helpful people here helped me and now I can enjoy hearing things from all over including hearing the NYPD from Essex county.

Does anyone know if the ACO (ID K-9) and Traffic Maintence (ID Truck 4) is on the MPD TGID? When the MPD was on UHF, these two units were also on the MPD frequency. Thanks.
