• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

When I got a couple for a couple old Ht1000s to use to monitor they had the /\/\ logo on it. Typically they were ones found on the bay. I usually go direct buying but since it was just to monitor some of our older channels in a office I got them cheap. But I could recall some one saying the aftermarket knock offs could cause issues of you plan to TX. It was some time ago though so Im not too sure what was said.

The Motorola trademark is regularly faked by the aftermarket people, so it means little or nothing. The source/seller is a more reliable indicator of whether it's genuine Motorola or not.

True, I know they are knock offs and dont plan to TX with them. They serve fine to monitor some analog channels. I only got two and dont plan to buy again. I usually buy direct from a /\/\ dealer. But since the older radios are eventually going to be sold off or retired at the time spending a few bucks was better then buying new hardware for something thats going to be obsolete in time.

APX 6000 700/800MHz/GPS antenna is white and measures at 20.2mm

The antenna on my APX 6000 is Black and is for 700/800MHz/GPS. Can I inquire where you got the white on at. I think it would be a bit more visible when inside of a burning structure then a black one even though many times I can't see anyway, it would still be nice to have.

The color codes are in or near the threads at the base of the antenna and aren't actually the color of the antenna overall. Black is the only OEM color available externally.

Some of the newer antennas are marked right on the base. I just got a new antenna for my HT1250 and it says "Motorola UHF" vertically at the base. Same for my newer XPR6550.

Oh....haha....I feel like a dumb-dumb now. I have never taken the antenna off of mine to know that. It would be nice if Motorola would make an antenna in white, or even come up with a way to make a glow-in-the-dark on for firefighter use since it would glow. I have had a few times that I have dropped my radio and it is a little difficult to find a black radio among black char.

Hey, no problem! It is a great idea. They already make some yellow radios, not sure why they don't offer anything else.

Motorola actually makes a few different "safety" colors on some of the newer models and I've seen replacement shells for sell on eBay.

Does moto have a "whip" style antenna? you are right though. I probably wont use it because I dont want to mess anything up.

We use the Laird EXH155SF for the HT1000,XTS3000 and XTS5000 radios and they are a Whip antenna. They perfom very well and they are rugged as well. They are more flexable than the Motorola wideband antenna which I like alot, having to use my radio for 12 hrs a day. They are not cheap ,but I want them to work. You can buy them from Tessco if you have an account. You can buy them from an Amazon seller which turned out to be Tessco too, even though Tessco is not listed as the seller.

Amazon.com: Laird Techologies 150-160 Portable Antenna, 10.5": Cell Phones & Accessories

The Kenwood antenna is EXH155SFK ,and it will not work on the Motorola SMA.

I see what you're saying. As far as I've seen, they no longer color code anything but simply write the covered band on the side of the antenna. Still, a reference chart would be nice. Not sure I have time to make one or see if one exits already, apart from what's already available in the catalogs/service manuals. The catalog might be easiest to use as is.

ETA: Yes, nice catalog chart, see page 26 here: APX Accessory Catalog
