• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

The waterproof "mini" Motorola EX series has been recently launched in the UK, what's interesting is that they are planning to do a UHF MPT1327 version due to be released early next year.

Just shows that even the big M still has an eye on MPT which is still very popular for on-site usage.

Tait are also supposed to be revamping their analogue/MPT portable range to bring them in-line with the TM8235 and digital portables, don't know if this has been delayed though due to the circumstances.

Icom and Kenwood are also suposed to be planning something joint in the way of digital MPT1327 low cost digital trunking. Don't know anything else about it though.

Just shows there's still interest in the product and will continue to gain popularity until someone comes out with another "open" standard that a dozen manufactures support and that doesn't cost the earth to implement! MotoTRBO doesn't support any trunking at the moment and when it does its thought it will be LTR which isn't used anywhere in the UK and TETRA is far to expensive for most users.

Anyway, this email seems to have turned into a general MPT product leaflet!

I have recently been to an Icom road seminar and it was announced that Kenwood and Icom are doing the joint venture into a "DMR "Didital Mobile Radio platform .

If they are doing it I hope it is backwards compatible and can do some existing trunking platforms.

Being involved in the GSM eng side the radio side seems to be a little behind what the GSM /CDMA units in the form of processing .Having said that it the big players could agree for a universal platform to cater accross the fields then one radio should be able to preform all existing protocols.

Hi,

We would love them all to come up with a compatible standard but It looks to me at the moment that they are all coming up with their own take on digital technology, trying to squeeze as much money out of "going digital" as possible.

Nice to hear that the Japanese manufacturers are still trying to develop something remotely universal.

On a side note, Icom have this month released a new MPT1327 version of their commercial IC-F44G portable which should be popular for on-site applications, especially if the price is right.

Regards
Richard
