• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I just Received 2 16 channel 800mhz Maxtrac Radios,
My Local Police and Fire are on a Type II TRS, I know you can track them conventionally and just listen to the voice channels, so my question is, in order to do that, Do i enter the RED Control Channels into the Radios, Or the Alternate Control Channels to hear all voice traffic at once?

I am trying to monitor Fort Worth Texas Police TRS CONVENTIONALLY

Fort Worth / Tarrant County Public Safety Trunking System, Fort Worth, Texas - Scanner Frequencies

I am Also Wondering if anyone has ever done a Repeater conversion with Maxtrac Radios?

since it is analog Type II you should enter all freqs, the reds are repeaters 1-4 which can be voice OR control, 1 of them rolls as control every 24 hours and the others are voice. the next day that control would go to voice and the next chan becomes CC for the day.

you will never follow a conversation with those maxtracs as conventional, i don't know if you can even put that many chans in them. the maxtracs allowed only a limited number of coventional slots, you will have to read them and then see what it says in the radiowide screen.

from what i read on ebay they are 16 channels, i would have to find someone to program them out, but i am using them as a RX only Scanner, i don't intend on following talkgroups, just follow the system and all the activity system wide..

The SAPS will probably get you for wanting to do this and tell you it is impossible to do (which it isn't) and you will get in trouble if you do it.

Can you monitor them by putting in all the channels and just hitting scan? Not really. You will be picking everyone up who uses the TRS.

Can you program it in TRS mode and not have them (owner of the TRS) know it? Yes.

Can the owner of the TRS charge you with a crime if caught with it programmed without their consent? Yes.

Is a scanner a better option? YES!

Well, As far as that goes,

1. It wouldn't be programed in TRS mode because a Maxtrac can not be programmed in Type II TRS Mode, As my maxtracs can't enter trunking mode because they are conventional only,

I have a scanner, this is just a cool project i want to ensue because i already have the nescessary equipment,

and my objective is not to track talkgroups, but instead monitor the entire system conventionally in RX only mode like stated above...
