• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Latest Trbo CPS 2.0 as of 21 July 2021 is version 2.110.120.0. Firmware, you will have to get into Motorola Solutions online and check for that, do not have any XPR3500e's myself. I do not commonly upgrade firmware unless there is a very specific need to do so. Learned that lesson years ago.

So I just got a new SL3500e and my CPS 2.0 is saying "code plug version not supported". I am just using a basic usb to micro usb cable so either my CPS is too old or I need a special programming cable. My CPS version is 2.18.95.0. Before I get raked for trying a simple cable that is how SL7550's that I have can be programmed. Anyone know the solution to my situation?

Your cable should be fine as long as the radio is recognized by your computer. So I'm gonna venture out on a limb and say that it's a firmware ver/software ver mismatch.

In CPS 2.0 is there any way to copy the code plugs for different model radios or do you have to build each one new. Am afraid I know the answer.

You can open a non 2.0 codeplug in 2.0 and it will convert.

Aha. Open two CPS side by side and copy-paste

You can open a non 2.0 codeplug in 2.0 and it will convert.
Once you convert the codeplug from 16/828 into CPS 2.0 will the old 16/828 code plug still exist? Scared of Motorola

Duh I could just rename it and save that one in case.

Thanks for your help tonight!

The current CPS 2.0 version as of October, 2021 is 2.110.235.0 .

To open older code plugs in 2.0, you need to have CPS 16/828 installed alongside it. Even with that, some very old code plugs will not open in 2.0 no matter what. (Growl!)

I don't recommend programming Generation I radios (XPR4000 / 6000 / 8000) with CPS2.0. I have seen them misbehave badly after that, particularly Connect Plus radios.

so what do you recommend they be programmed with.

CPS version 16 build 828, the last release of the earlier CPS. If you need wide band (Ham, GMRS, marine or T-band) and you don't have the EID for wide band, version 8.0 is the last one that will allow wide band. That one might not work with later firmware, though.

There an easy hex edit found with google search to enable wideband in CPS 16

I’ve just started looking into these radios so excuse my ignorance but what does “wideband” give you on them?
Compatibility with channels that still require wideband. Analog Ham, Marine, railroad and some other services are still wideband modulation vs narrowband.

Trying to read a radio with CPS 16.0 Build 828 and getting Error 1027 Codeplug version not supported. I have the wideband patch for CPS 16. I have version 2.0 and want to install it but i dont want to lose the spacing patch. Is this the workaround being discussed above or can i just copy the .dll file and paste it into the 2.0 version folder?

If you already have the 16 version and you install CPS2.0, it should carry over into the 2.0 CPS.

Edit: Correction, if you have a legit key in the 16 software, it will carry over into 2.0
