• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a pair of the Motorola Saber II UHF HT's. One of them is a Model # H996A +061H Motorola ID no. H44SAJ7139CN and is from 440-470MHz. The Securenet Saber II is a H99QX+061h Motorola ID H44QX37139CN.

I have several questions about them.

I would like to set them up for GMRS. I want to have two zones on them. One for the main channels and the other for the intersitials (which pair with FRS -- set to low power only) Will they work ok for GMRS?

How should I set up the TX / RX pairs for the repeater duplex?

One is a Securenet Saber II the other is not. It has that little switch next to the volume.

How do I know if I have it set up right?

What are the two buttons below the PTT?

Do I need to have PL Tones set up in it?

What Motorola batteries do I need to use? I use the NTN4734A charger.

How do I set up the scan list?

Greg

Lots of questions, let's see what I can help you with:

TX/RX - Transmit is on the 467 and receive is on the 462
Securnet - just don't worry about it because if you move it one way it will probably buzz and you will switch it back!
The two buttons below the PTT are programmable via RSS.
PL tones are needed if you are going to hit a repeater.
You can use a Motorola or equivalent battery - just google - Motorola Saber Battery
The Scan List is set up via the RSS.

If you have the RSS and not sure how to use it, you may want to find someone to do it for you. At first, it's a bit overwhelming, but after you do them for a while, it get's easy.

If indeed you do have the RSS but have problems trying to figure it out (i.e. tones, scan list, etc.), drop me a private message and I'll be more than happy to "build the codeplug" for you since my Saber III Securnet is my personal radio of choice.

I've heard that they are not narrowband. Whats up with this?

The only repeater I can hear is on 462.5500/467.5500 and is closed. I have not heard REACT GMRS in Washington State for a long time. I don't have the PL tone for this repeater, although I've heard the owner on it several times.

B7spectra, if you want to you can send me a codeplug.I do not have RSS.

The two batteries I do have are 7.5v 2700MAh Ni-MH battery from Anderson ADSM-4592SH. Should I look for the Motorola NTN4592?

I saw a video on Youtube with a Saber II on GMRS.. Something about Santiago Peak RUG? maybe LA County REACT. The youtube user was drice1987.

Do we have 50W on GMRS output? I'm assuming the Saber II is 5w.
