• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have an XTS3000 Model III, one for VHF and one for UHF. VERY happy with both radios, and they sound great on P25. I was particularly happy with my UHF model because I could program Greenburgh and Yonkers, NY receive only and listen to both departments. Mt Pro 197 and Pro 106 do a fine job decoding P25, but there's nothing like a commercial radio to decode P25!
I also own two Jedi MTS2000 radios. If you don't need P25, look into them.

Love mine too. Supprisingly easy to work on if something does go wrong. Carry mine for work and the fire department.

3000 is no longer supported by Moto... so it's harder to get them fixed, harder to get spare parts, and there won't be any changes to the firmware. You need a RIB box to program it.

The 5000 is a current radio still being sold by Moto. You don't need a RIB box to program it.

The programming models in CPS are slightly different.

I mean... one could write a BOOK on the differences between the 3000 and the 5000. You MIGHT try telling us a bit about what, specifically, you're interested in... so we have some context with which to answer your question (as Motorolanut suggested a couple of days ago).

If you have the service manual and detailed service manual its not too hard ;) as long as you have the right equipment, and I have yet to find any parts that are NLA, but I am sure that time is coming.

I use a moto ribless cable for the 5k and it programs my 3k fine.
