• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Before I reach out to Motorola for assistance, I thought I'd check in with the group one more time to see if anyone has been able to resolve this issue. I am still encountering the same "license server error" on both Ver. 16 and Ver. 2. No luck on either program with a freshly issued EID.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you ended up having success with the 20/25 Entitlement, but did just successfully activate a freshly purchased Digital Subscriber EID on a 6580 using CPS 15 v754. Initially experienced the same error, but after authenticating all was well, so it appears there is still functionality with the 'legacy' CPS.

Great suggestion! Just disconnected my Surface from my home network and connected to the internet via my iPhone hotspot (Verizon). Unfortunately, no change, attempted to load the EID in both Ver. 16 and Ver. 2, same "license server error" on both.
Did you ever get this working? Moto Solutions told me I needed to authenticate my computer by going to their connect website so they would get my computer's mac id married to the entitlement key.

@ Twlighting and adover211, my apologies for the delayed response! Things have been hectic, just finished moving, unpacking, wife had a baby, etc.

I put this project on the back burner as I became preoccupied with the above, but I tried this morning and it was a success! I had tried this exact procedure back in August, logging in to the MSI "Authentication Server" and then trying to activate the EID, but it wasn't working then. My guess is they were in the process of implementing this routine when I previously attempted.

I was able to utilize my single issued wideband EID to unlock both CPS16 and 2.0 on the same computer. Looks like as long as the MAC address is the same, you can unlock both versions with the same key.

Thanks for the follow-up, hope everyone is having a great week.

Hey did you ever work this out? Getting the same issue tying to enable IP Site Connect on CPS2 (fresh install). Thanks!

I have having the same issue trying to load an EID for 25khz. I simply did a MSI Authentication and it worked.

Hi Gmork! Can you possibly expand on that a bit? I have *no idea* what an MSI Authentication is. Google tells me it's a "Managed Services Identity"... is this something I do from the Motorola Website? From CPS? Thanks for your assistance!!

Thanks for pointing me back there. I had gone there originally and couldn't figure out what they wanted me to do.

To recap for anyone else who is experiencing the same cognitive dissonance that I was:

1- From the PC you're using CPS on, go to connect.motorolasolutions.com and sign on (I already had a motorola online id; I guess that is a prereq)
2- they'll ask you to authenticate by sending a code to the registered email address
3- once you enter the code, it will say "You are successfully authorized for 18 hours. You may now proceed to the application you generally use for licensing."
4- Send your licensing requests via CPS within 18 hours from the same PC and it will work.

*This is the part that confused me. I thought this was an online licensing portal they were referring to, when in fact they authorize your IP address. So when I sent a licensing request via CPS, my IP was known to the licensing portal, and it allowed me to continue*

What you said. You obviously have to have a MOL account or whatever they are calling it now. I went to connect.motorolasolutions.com logged in, it send a code to my MOL email address. Verified closed CPS re-opened and it worked.

To be fair it has been 2-3 years since I have needed to update any of my DMR radios but this worked for me.

Just called Moto. These guys are charging $5 to get a new EID if you have already activated it before on a computer. Doesn't matter if your computer crashed and you need to reinstall CPS. Once EID is used up, you need to get a new EID by coughing up $5. Not going to do that. Anyone have a workaround ?

Is $5 going to break the bank? That is what they charge everyone...

Yes, tell them you want a single EID with 25 units on it. Tell them you will happily pay $5 for the EID with 25 on it. I have gotten 50-75 on an EID in the past and it just goes right through. No worries. TT

It's not about the $5 but the fact they are charging for something you got for free which should be able to re-use. It's like getting a key for an antivirus software and activating it on your computer. Then your computer crashes and you end up doing a clean OS install and now the key does not work. You call the company that supplied you with the key and they say, sorry, gotta cough up more money to get another key. It's idiotic especially since its a key that a few clicks on their end generates and it. I'm not a power user or anything so I don't see what $5 is going to accomplish for Motorola.

Do the unused EIDs have a time limit or anything of the sort?

No time limit. I have some EID from 2016-2017 that are still open and get used every few weeks. TT

I'm everywhere Focker!
So what's the magic to get this to work? Already did the authenticate process and I'm good for 18 hours (well, more like 12 hours now).
