A police officer was taken to a Denver hospital at about 2:30 p.m. today after his horse fell on him, said Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
Jackson said the officer, part of the Denver Police Department's mounted patrol, was conscious when he was taken from the scene at 14th Avenue and Mariposa Street near Lincoln Park.
Jackson said he didn't know what caused the horse to fall or the condition of the animal.
He said the horses used by officers are large animals.
"That's a lot of weight," he said.
The officer was riding in tandem with another officer and horse.
