Has anyone heard any rumors about Van Buren County wanting to add a simulcast cell to the MPSCS?

Usually all you need is the control channel since it'll direct the radios to the talk frequencies. But if your radio has any database access, its a great way to sync it to Radio Refrence, or Uniden Sentinel.I have a silly, borderline stupid question. I have been listening to MPSCS for about 5 years on a Whistler WS1065. My reception has always been "meh" and I always chalked it up to poor location. However, I'm wondering if I programmed my scanner wrong. Do I need all of the frequencies listed for a site programed in (my current setup) or do I just need the control channel and alternate? Just curious.

I have multiple Whistler TRX-1 radios as well as a GRE PSR-800 that was upgraded to a WS-1080 by Whistler. I have no issue with simulcast reception on P25. However, I use the radios mostly at home where I'm 2-1/4 miles from a site. The audio quality begins to vary if I'm mobile depending on distance from the nearest site. Are you monitoring a simulcast site or a single site? Simulcast sites are tricky and require a little tweaking to get them to play nice.
If you are in a simulcast area, your radio will have issues with that. What happens if you scan a nearby county's site?I have a silly, borderline stupid question. A Whistler WS1065 will not work with Sentinel, only the newer models of Uniden's.
The Whistler will work with PCREdit-500, Butel's ARC500. I don't recommend Don Star's WIN500. Support is no longer available.
I am using PSREdit500. I still don't know the answer to my question. Do I need all of the frequencies, or just the control channels? I am using the MPSCS site at Northville which I don't believe is a simulcast site.
Great! Thanks! All you need is the control frequency (RED). It's a good idea to include the alternate control frequencies (BLUE) as well. If there is a problem with the main control frequency the system will go to one of the alternates. It is not necessary to program all the voice frequencies.
Great! Thanks!
Just general lack of traffic. My location is literally in the middle of the Pontiac and Northville MPSCS sites. Can I program the control channels for both sites in an effort to grab whatever signal is stonger? You're welcome.
Is the problem you're having distortion? It may be due to simulcast commonly used in Michigan. The WS1065 is not ideal to cope with that. What are you using for an antenna? How is your signal strength?

There's more traffic on Northville. I would favor that one if I had a choice between the 2. Or get a second radio and monitor both.Yes you can program more than one site, but it will slow down scanning to some extent. Keep in mind different sites can handle different talk-groups, as well as redundant talk-groups but not all sites handle all talk-groups.
Maybe some RR members near your location(?) will chime in here with some suggestions.

There is not a lack of traffic on Northville, unless the site is down. I have not programmed the Pontiac site into anything, so I have no idea how much traffic is on that one.Just general lack of traffic.
