If you know the frequency range of the control transmitters, which is available out there somewhere (I want to say 3GHz?), you can run a General Menu Report to find temporary authorizations for the contractors to conduct experimental flights. They will show under those types of licenses only.

I stumbled upon such by accident when doing a General Menu Report radius search around a point centered on a military base. There were interesting things like .pdf scans of testing documents and emails between engineers to coordinate the tests.

In the summer, they fly from Battle Creek up to Grayling for Exercise Northern Strike. They are escorted through the civilian air space by CAP aircraft.

There are MQ-9 squadrons at Griffiss in NY and Ellsworth AFB in SD. Shaw AFB in SC has a squadron but hasn't been operating them from there. Only three weeks ago did an MQ-9 land at Shaw.

They don't fly out of Battle Creek, either. They are just *operated* from there. They did fly one into BTL once last year, but it was only here for a day or two.

There are no MQ-9 squadrons at Griffiss. The MQ-9s in Upstate NY are attached to the 174th Attack Wing, Hancock Field ANG Base in Syracuse NY. The military units at Griffiss include the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS). The Defense Finance & Accounting Services (DFAS) is also located at Griffiss.

Edit - The Griffiss runway is often used by military aircraft. Having an 11,820 ft runway is a huge plus.

Actually, they are all over north America, especially fire season as forestry has a fleet of MQ-9s.
Most telemetry is 2.4 GHz FHSS with GFSK.
Flight control is more complicated with higher frequencies and 5 mix and match links, Direct ground, remote ground, command ground, and TDRS links for global operation. Any combination of the above.
