What besides possibly an internal dial-up modem is occupying COM1, and COM2 on your PC?

Right Click on My Computer, go to Properties. Click the Hardware tab and then Device Manager. Go to Ports and then select which one is your comm port. If nothing is assigned to 1 or 2, double click your comm/serial port that you want to change to Com 1. Go to Port Settings and then click Advanced. Under there, you can change it to Com 1 or 2.

Sounds to me like you should be doing it on an old DOS computer, like you need for older Motorola radios. You don't wanna fry it!

Special MR-8100 Software on eBay

There is someone on eBay who is always selling this CD and programing cable for the MR-8100. The person claims there are multiple applications on the CD for programing and other advanced features not found in the basic OEM software.

Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/UNIDEN-MR8100-M...oryZ4673QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

I have not purchased it myself, but have thought about it.
