Coming soon to a freeway near you. Too bad the flash pattern on the new lights does not give the trademark MSP "sweep" of the old lights...I miss seeing that at night.
Get use to it, after the Crown VIc is gone looks like this is going to be the car of choice for MSP.
The best thing to do is buy from all the vendors, this way you are not stuck when a problem arises. It does take a larger inventory to maintain but it's worth it. Do you know whether they bought the V-8 or not, your photo cuts off the exhaust pipes. You would think that when the MSP changed cars they would upgrade to a more visible light bar. I do know that a local department that lost a lawsuit when the lawyer showed that the bubble light in today's world was insufficient warning. After his client plowed into the patrol car at an accident scene.
MSP isn't going with Ford.. Only the Charger and the Tahoe will be their choice for 2011 and that decision was made final.
Dodge however to get the contract has to install a roof support for the light.
Now the only drawback to the Dodge is this (Brakes) they SUCK and are replaced as a 3X rate compared to the Vic's and the Tahoe's that they have in service at this time.

I figure with AWD and twin turbos it will put Ford out of range of the Hemi Charger from a price point. IIRC back when they first came out the 5.7L Charger was almost $3K more then the CVPI, but over the years the combination of the CVPI going up in price and the Charger coming down has brought them to about even. I've even seen more recent state bids on the net were the 5.7L Charger came in well under the CVPI.
While I may miss the CVPI for a nostalgia stand point, I can't say I'll ever miss that 4.6L 2v V8. I've always liked the Hemi Charger since they first came out, but now that I have over 5,000 miles on my Charger I really, really like it.

Oh post the weak picsShow the good one up at the Mack.. lol.. The one of the boat looking like your radaring it was priceless.
Nice Pics BTW.
Stay Safe Guys. Lets hope the new Gov don't destroy the Tradition of the Department with this talk of a Regional Academy.
Id rather do the real School then the short bus academy to wear those blues.
I am also concerned about the training issue!
I am also concerned about Sheriff Hackel being named to the new Law Enforcement Committee that the Governor has formed! I have always heard that sheriff Hackel is ANTI-STATE POLICE, I hope I am wrong!

You would think that when the MSP changed cars they would upgrade to a more visible light bar.
On straight, flat stretches of road, I've seen that beacon from a distance of around 5 miles. No lightbar comes close to the visibility.
The older Unity sealed beam beacon, sure; even with the new non spitfire lens. You can see those things halfway to tomorrow, even in rain/fog, and there's never a question as to who it is. When you see those pinkish red beams spinning around, you know exactly who caught you.
The new LED module in the Unity housing, not so much. Though the jury's still out for me, I think I've physically seen them in use on the highway twice.
As I understand it, the reasons MSP hasn't moved away from the single beacon are aerodynamics and high-speed performance.

Thanks. Every now and then I take a second or two to snap a photo with the old cell phone camera.
