I know in reading some where that they plan to start or already started to reband,my question when this takes place are they going p25 at the same time? Also are they going to upgrade to newer radios and if so,which model. (I guess am a geek like that)
"are they going p25 at the same time [as rebanding the analog system]?" No, the two actions (rebanding the 3600 system and installing a 9600 system) are entirely unrelated.
"Also are they going to upgrade to newer radios and if so,which model[?]" Rebanding will not require swapping out mobile MCS2000 equipment and it will not require swapping out those MTS2000 portables that have 1M of memory, though both could require firmware upgrades to handle the rebanding channel table. At one time the MSP acquired a bunch of 512K MTS2000 portables from the Atlanta Olympic Games, and these radios cannot be firmware uplifted to handle rebanding. However, I think most of them were sold to the subscriber users (e.g., Cape fire departments), versus being put into MSP service.
When, as and if MSP implements a 9600 baud system, they will have to deploy XTS portables and XTL mobiles with the proper firmware and flash options. However, expect them to keep aspects of the 3600 baud system running for quite a while.
