There have been many rumors floating around that MSP will get onto a new 700 Mhz system - which neither of your scanners will trunk. However right now that's all they are - rumors. What is happening is that a number of troops are getting handheld units so they can communicate with whatever county system they require for their areas. Check the RRDB for more on that - some places - like St.Mary's - have more than 1 talkgroup reserved for this purpose. 73s Mike

According to the MD Government DHS website, the microwave tower backbone of the proposed statewide 700 MHZ system was about 40% complete sometime in 2006....of course that implies absolutely nothing about when (or if) the system will ever be up and running and exactly which agencies will sign on (MSP, NRP were specifically suggested, per that website). I actually just googled the related documents a week ago and there were no additional updates.

since early 2000's, I've heard about a statewide system being implemented, and the details have usually been the same every time I hear the 'rumor', the only thing that has changed, is that it's gone from 800 Mhz, to 700 Mhz.....

The interoperability documents I've seen have mentioned a completion date of ~2010, the 'rumors' also have hinted at a 2009/2010 completion date......

Went to the MVA Express is Parkville last week and the trooper assigned there was wearing an 800mhz portable. Appeared to be a low-tier XTS5000. Any ideas?

Hmmm....given the location, maybe just a Bel Air assigned trooper that you saw?

pro-97,

I'm just taking a wild guess that the trooper he saw was from the Bel Air Barracks....they share the Harford Co 800 digital system....and Parkville would likely be well within range of their towers. Golden Ring troopers (some) have 800 radios to use when assisting Balt Co PD....but they certainly wouldn't carry this as a primary radio.

MSP Barracks I (Easton) seems to prefer using the Upper Eastern Shore Consortium and Dorchester County 800Mhz trunked systems over their low-band freqs. Several times I've heard a call go out on 39.960Mhz, only to hear the answer come back via one of the trunked talkgroups.

Quite possibly these calls are being simulcasted, but its hard to tell since I've only got the one scanner to work with.

Upper Eastern Shore Consortium MSP TG's
25840 MSP-I (Easton)
25776 MSP-S (Centerville)

Dorchester County MSP TG's
37600 MSP-I (Easton)

You are correct the troopers in this area use both the upper shore and the dorchester system. It is simulcast on the low band and the digital systems of both.
