To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Dear all,

do anyone have any clue what to do with my MTH800? Yesterday i have updated some things in cps, flashed it, and than I couldn't turn it on anymore. I have put battery out and into charging station - after a night, it is full (i get two green lights on)... put back, same - no response. If i put the station into the charging station - it comes by orange light (what does this mean?). If i plug it into the computer, connected with usb - it recognizes the usb, but CPS plus can't read it, because it's turned off. I have no clue what to do... press red buton, doesn't turn on, if i press 1+9 and turn on - no flash mode...

any help please?

If you have LAB software and a special cable and a default S-record firmware file it can probably be fixed. If you don't have all of those then you'll have to send it in to be repaired. But you can probably buy another MTH800 for the same or lower cost as the repair.

You now say it was interrupted during update, a month after starting thread. How do you know it was interrupted, where you watching the screen during the update? Just curious.

Now i have pmkn4025b cable. Does anybody have any instructions how to read radio. I know in depot, you go to tools > read via rs232, but nothing happens. I have pluuged cable into radio, on the other side rs232 to adapter to usb and plugged into computer. Do you think i have to put it directly to rs232 port on computer, cause i have to buy adapter from female to male... or get really old machine

It's not the correct cable. It should have a switch on it to put the radio in flash mode. FLN9636A looks to be the one. I have used a RS232-USB adapter and it works, no need for proper RS232 port at the computer.

I have never encountered a computer with an opposite gender rs232 port. Are you sure you're not mistaking the vga port for rs232? 232 will have 9 pins vs a vga that has 15.

Pmkn4025 is the right cable, motorola original one, so i don't know why it would be the wrong one?
It's only for programming a fully working radio. The cable with the switch will wake up the bootloader in the radio and let it be flashed and programmed.

Uffaa, and the cable is really too expensive for one use. Does anybody can lent it or repair it for me?

That part# for the cable I referred to might have been cancelled and are obsolete and there are instead a USB cable that now are available. As I understand the switch only ground one pin in the radio connector, so it shouldn't be expensive. Maybe there are more affordable Chinese copies of the flash cable.
