• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know a good place to have my Moto MTS 2000 portable repaired and about how much it would cost (ballpark figure)? I have to get my radio repaired. The radios display is almost all gone-hardly any pixels on the display left. Sending it out somewhere is an option, so if anyone knows a good radio shop that can do the work-please let me know where and how much you think I might be looking at to fix it. Thanks

The service bulletin and any chance to repair missing pixels on the Jedi radios expired around the end of march 2008.

There isn't any repair available outside of the depot and they may not be performing them anymore.

The display uses a special glue bonding which no outside shops were capable of repairing, the only repair that I remember was from the depot and I don't believe that they will do it anymore but you could try contacting them to see if they will do it.

Motorola really doesn't want to deal with the older radios anymore, for them it's more lucrative to have you purchase something newer.

There's a place in Las Vegas called Lone Mountain Communications that says they can fix this problem & charges $29.95 to do so. They even claim if you send the whole radio, they'll throw in a free alignment. They also sell complete fronts with working displays for $60. Give them a call 702-644-1200. Post back to the board what you found out & if they fixed your radio to your satisfaction. Good luck. GARY N4KVE

No luck moonboots . But thanks for the referral, it seems that lone mountain
may be out of business since phone and email don't work anymore. Does anyone have
any other referral for me. Thanks again Gary

you can order the front with a display in it from any Motorola dealer. it just plugs in if you order the whole thing. the top only display models are not too bad, but the limited and full keypads with teh front display are costly. it may be cheaper to buy a "junker" and use that.

I wonder if they have a UHF 450-512 MT2000 controller for a 6 key display front.

Or a code plug for one..

If you don't want to spend the money for a new display, you can perform the following at your own risk:

I've had good luck with using a heat gun to "reseat" the ribbon back onto the display. I take the radio apart to expose the display and then with power applied to the radio, I sweep a heat gun back and forth until all of the pixels on the display are visible. I've done this to several Jedi radios and all are still functioning correctly.

Most, if not all of the display ribbons seem to have been exposed to extreme heat at some point, because they were lifting and bubbling up. Using the heat gun smoothed the ribbon back out.

Good luck!

I have used the heat gun on low setting along with a tooth pick (rounded end) to gently apply pressure across the in traces. this gives a better contact rather than hoping the 'glue' melts enough to re-establish the connection.

Just today I was able to get a perfect display/keypad assy from a trusted seller on Batlabs for $50 which included 2 DVP modules, so they are out there. GARY N4KVE

There is a guy who did mine back about 2 months ago and it still is looking GREAT!

Ebay item ID is:

Hope this helps some of you. I know it was the best 22.00 I spent on my radio.
