• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I saw this ad for an MTS2000 for a fairly decent price:
Motorola MTS2000 III UHF Police Fire GMRS radio 445 512 - eBay (item 130452839283 end time Nov-10-10 19:51:39 PST)
At the beginning of the ad he says its a 160 channel radio. Then later he states it has 225 channels. I am confused here
Also take note of the fact that one of his pictures is of an MTX838. I emailed the guy about this 4 days ago about al of this and he has yet to respond to my request. What do you guys think? He has a 100% rating though. Hmm...

I've seen his listings around - he always makes it confusing - he posts too much general information and not enough about the specific model
Older ones are 160 channel and you can find newer ones with 255 channels

I've never bought anything from this seller but I usually shy away from ads that contradict themselves, especially in more ways than one. Further down it says 32 channels programmed for free but elsewhere it said 25.

The MTX pic tells me that this was probably thrown together quickly or they don't expect people to notice or know the difference.

The lack of communication isn't a good sign to me but who knows!

BTW, those radios have 160 channels.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! It was bugging the heck out of me trying to understand it all. I would believe the 255 channel thing if all he showed and talked about was the picture of the MTS Flashport. But that other confusing stuff compiled with the fact that he did not return my email, leads me to believe something is just not right about this guy. I'm staying away but man it looked like a good price for a second there. I know, I know, if it looks too good to be true, it usualy is.........GEE WIZZZZ....

That's an average price for that radio. I recently purchased a similar radio from a reliable trusted seller on Batlabs for $140. The radio was mint, & all original. Not recased. Works perfectly. I will admit, the guy's ad is confusing & contradicts itself, but the price is where it should be. Any more is crazy. Heck, you can hardly get $200 for a UHF Astro Saber that does Imbe, or $300 for a UHF XTS 3000 that does IMBE. 3 months ago, I was selling a clean AS3 for $200, & it took a week to sell. I also had a mint XTS 3K for $300, & it never sold, so I kept it. Mint too. All those idiots on EBAY trying to get $279 for a UHF MTS2000 are either dreaming, or waiting for a sucker. GARY N4KVE

What is looks like to me is that this guy is trying to make a business but he has no clue about how to sell radios.
To me he more looks like a salesman selling to the general public. He lists all the features the radio has, fills a whole page with fluff about narrowband (I can't count how many times it says narrowband in that page) and features that anyone who is buying the radio would already know it has "A/B/C switch" its not toys were selling here.
People who actively search out these radios know what they do and how to use them.
With a radio like that I'd be more interested in knowing all the stuff that comes up when you put it into service mode - not interested in knowing that it has a "rotary channel select knob"

My sentiments exactly. I think I might as well save my dough and get an XTS-2500 with FPP and really have some fun. I was looking for this radio because it was the one I used to use when I was on the job transporting inmates and stuff. It took a heck of a beating and kept on going. I figured it would last a long time here at home on my monitoring shack. I guess I can keep looking around. I will keep an eye out on Batlabs as well. If he would at least have returned my emails with SOME kind of explanation, maybe I would have taken a chance. Oh well, his loss.....

The other thing that got me was that unless the band range is/was modified, his description is wrong. He claims that the radio has a range of
445-470 Mhz. According to the chart on Batlabs, this model number he lists:H01SDH9PW1BN is wrong.
http://www.batlabs.com/images/mtsxmod.gif. It is 470-520 Mhz radio. Maybe I"m not reading it right but according to the model number, it is not what he claims it to be range wise.

"S" split Jedi's which have an official coverage of 450-520 will easily work well in the 440-450 area & work in the ham band. Similarly, "R" split 403-470 Jedi's will work well in the "T" band [470-476]. They both will go a little bit out of their official coverage area. GARY N4KVE

Hmmmm!

Well well well!
I check my email as normal this morning and guess who I get a response from? Yup, Mr. confusion ads! He answered the questions I originaly asked him but in a weird way.

Is this an MTS2000 Flashport like the one pictured or a regular MTS2000? YES (?)
Does this radio have 160 or 255 channels? 160 (already knew that thanks to you guys here)
Why is there a picture of an MTX838? Oh, ah, sorry for confusion.
Forgive me for saying so but if you read your own ad, you will understand why or how someone can get confused. YES, SORRY ABOUT THAT...

You guys figure it out. I already gave up on this guy! I have to say in all fairness that he DID change one of his ads.
