• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Unication G4 new guy here.
I have successfully programed my first profile with one site (MARCS) to monitor Fairfield County Sherriff's Office. I elected to only include one site for simplicity for my first try programming it. Now that it's working, is it possible to add two additional MARCS sites to the existing profile (edit)? The idea is to have good reception traveling anywhere in the county.
Thanks in advance.

Yes. In your p25 trunking site system (tab 2 frequency & system setting), select p25 trunking system setting tab at the top. You will see your "system" that you added the single tower. Add the additional sites with their rfss id and site id in under the site and their associated frequencies in under the control channel column for that system. That will add them to the "system" as an option so when you turn your pager to a knob with that "system", it will dejected the strongest site to where you're at from those programmed in that system

AWESOME! Thank you.
I've programmed my scanners over the years, analog and digital, and now I need to learn the G4. Sometimes a little intimidating to an old guy. :) Now if I can only find out where to plug in the crystals!

Thanks again.

A related issue, discussed here in this forum, that you should be aware of when doing this.... Often in larger regional communication systems, you'll find a subset of talkgroups on each site, perhaps based on subscriber units affiliating to that talkgroup on a given site. The pager will NOT scan across sites - rather it will decide which site is the best and lock onto it until it deems it out of range (probably based on bit error rate exceeding some threshold) - only then will it look for the best site again. This means that, depending on which site you're locked onto, you may unexpectedly not hear the traffic for talkgroups that you are interested in. If all three sites are in the same county, and there's only one sheriff talkgroup for the whole county, you may be OK, but just be aware of this if you think you're missing traffic....

The unication pagers are programmed more like a radio as opposed to a scanner. This can lead to some confusion with people who aren't used to programming radios on a TRS and have only programmed scanners.

As previously stated, the G4 is not a scanner, and as such it will lock on to a single site and scan that site until it is out of range then it will search for others. If no radios are affiliated to a talkgroup with that site, the scanner may not hear that talkgroup depending on how the system is set up.
