Guess the city got some mojo for all their troubles. The officers who were the partners of these so called celebs should get first dibs on the new rides.

Amazingly this show is getting good reviews - It didnt seem all that great to me, but I did keep watching primarily because I lived in Muncie for 4 years.

Officer's widow upset by reference in reality show

The widow of a police officer fatally shot 15 years ago was angered by a discussion of his death that was included in the "Armed & Famous" reality TV show.

The episode of the CBS show broadcast Wednesday showed Muncie police training officer Kyle Temple taking his celebrity partner, Trish Stratus, to a downtown memorial to fallen officers after she had improperly patted down a woman being arrested.

"Screwed up and missed a handgun," Temple said, apparently referring to Officer Gregg Winters. "Loved him to death. Screwed up and missed a handgun."

Winters was shot five times in the back of the head and neck in December 1990 by a handcuffed prisoner he was transporting to jail in a patrol car.

Molly Winters, the officer's widow, said the problem with Temple's lecture was that trial testimony showed that Winters was not the officer who missed the gun while searching the prisoner.

Molly Winters, who now lives near Greenfield, said that she spoke by phone with Temple on Thursday and he apologized.

"I'm sure (Temple) did have good intentions," Winters said. "But it sure did come out wrong."

Temple told The Star Press he drove Stratus to the memorial because he didn't believe the former pro wrestler understood how dangerous Muncie could be and blamed himself for not warning the Winters family about the reference.

During the episode, Temple wiped tears from his eyes while talking about how he presented a flag to Molly Winters during a memorial service several years after Gregg Winters' death. Stratus is one of five celebrities who trained as reserve police officers for the show.

Michael Lambert was given a death sentence after being convicted of murder in Winters' death and remains on death row in the Indiana State Prison.

I thought the officer on the show was totally out of place with regards to his words as well.

He went up to the memorial marker and practically yelled as he pointed (touching) the marker - HE SCREWED UP - HE MISSED A GUN. I was like WOW the dead cop screwed up? It came across as being very disrespectful IMO even though I figured his intentions were good.

Then he went on to talk about him like he was his buddy; and seemed to be more sincere about it, and had just went about it the wrong way. At the time I thought it would upset the family - looks like it did.

armed dangerous and gone

From the Muncie Star Website:
MUNCIE — Muncie’s claim to reality show fame has reportedly been canceled.

Armed and Famous, which followed the exploits of celebrities including Eric Estrada and LaToya Jackson as they patroled the streets of Muncie as police reserves, has been canceled, show business newspaper Variety has reported.

A story posted Friday evening on variety.com headlined, “CBS pulls ‘Armed,’ shifts ‘Knights,’” noted that the return of the popular talent competition show American Idol had, two weeks after its returned, claimed two victims.

“CBS has pulled comedy-reality skein Armed and Famous from its schedule, effective immediately,” the story noted, adding that another show opposite American Idol, Knights of Prosperity, has been moved from competition with American Idol.

Erik Estrada back in Muncie

Get the feed ready :D

http://www2.indystar.com/articles/7/253553-6497-127.html

Erik Estrada is back in Muncie this week for training to keep up the reserve police officer status he earned as part of the canceled CBS reality show, "Armed & Famous."

"When I make a commitment to be somewhere, it's done, like gold," Estrada, 58, told The Star Press in an interview Monday. "And I'll be here next year too, and the year after that."

"And I hope, 30 or 40 years from now, God willing, that when it's time to put me in my grave, I'll go in my Muncie uniform and badge," he said.

Muncie police Capt. Chuck Hensley said Estrada was "100 percent committed to this."

Estrada will spend the week participating in various training events and will ride along with officers again while on duty, said Police Chief Joe Winkle. He said an eight-hour monthly service requirement would be waived for Estrada.

The former "CHiPs" star also intends to help with the Muncie Police Department's annual "Shop with a Cop" charity event.

After filming for "Armed & Famous" wrapped, Estrada also recieved deputy status with the sheriff's department in Bedford County, Va.
