I Am new to all this. So since they changed to MotoTrbo does that mean I can't get MPD on a scanner or anything? What would I need to get to be able to pick this up??

Thanks

Or you could get a MotoTRBO radio. For a Motorola, they are inexpensive. I've seen them go for less than a D-STAR HT on eBay.

Muscatine PD is NOT motoTRBO they are just digital 857.4875. Muscatine Fire did go to motoTRBO about a year ago so you can not pick them up. All other public saftey agencies in Muscatine County can be picked up with analog scanner. But you will need digital for Muscatine PD.

That is incorrent. If you read the link provided above you will see that they ARE, in fact, on TRBO.
Where are you getting your information.....

A digital scanner will NOT pick up the PD, and not ALL other public safety in the county is analog... case in point being MFD.

I am getting my info from listening to my scanner at home IN MUSCATINE. On which I am currently hearing them on the freq I provided in my post. So either my DIGITAL pro-2096 can suddenly pick up mototrbo (not), I am hearing things (don't think so), or like I said they are digital, NOT mototrbo as of yet. Yes, I have read the artical that is posted but as of this point (May 23, 2011 at 8:46 pm) they are still broadcast over their digital channel.

If you read my post I stated that Muscatine Fire WAS mototrbo and you COULDN'T pick them up. Having said that this excluded them from the "all other public saftey" catagory. So in fact all other public safety agencies in the county, excluding muscatine city police and muscatine city fire, are analog.

I do understand that you can't pick up mototrbo on any type of scanner and I am not arguing that point. I am just stating that at this point Muscatine PD is still operating on their digital channel. And no I am not sure when they plan on switching to mototrbo.

I guess their "digital" channel would mean "P25", since TRBO would technically be a "digital" channel also.... ^_^ or it could be Nexedge which would also qualify as a "digital" channel.

I have never fully understood what type of "digital" they are. All I know is that they are a single 800 freq that has digital endcoding. What I mean by this (because I don't know if I am using the right term) is that you can only hear them on a digital scanner. But you can hear them and understand what they are saying. I do however know what mototrbo and Nexedge sound like and it is NOT either one of those.

If you can hear them with your 2096 it is probably P25. Both Marion PD and Linn County can "go digital" if they wish. Marion was completely digital for a couple weeks several yrs ago........neither like their system and rarely if ever use it. It is NOT a P25 system (I can't remember the encoding name but someone will probably come on here and tell us) and thus can't be decoded by any of our scanners.

By the way................my GRE is still working great in Johnson County..............I have played with the settings a bit and think I could probably get it from home if I put up a yagi pointed at the Solon tower......
