My 396, the First 12hours

1. MAN, this thing can be dialed right into weirdsville in no time...i'm trying to be careful not to do any damage.

2. The UASD software CAN make life easier as long as the .usd file is set up properly...the ones on the yahoo group don't show TGID in the display, only the Group, and TG#. Func-5 does nothing when you press it.

3. The DC freqs do not pick up at all...i think the .usd file i got from yahoo is wrong.


4. Manual entry is straightforward...but labor intensive...to be avoided at all costs if you intend to make the scroll knob last longer than a week.

if anyone can help me with the issues in 2, and 3..that'd be helpful.

i DO like the potential of this thing if properly set up, but u can tell it was built by some serious radio weenies...user friendly is a COMPARATIVE term here.

as it turns out...the TG NAMES are all entered in as 0...so i had to go in and enter in manually the names associated with the TG# before i could get hits with ID SCAN.

Also, I suggest running as "ID SEARCH" verses scan unless you know for sure you have ALL talkgroups programmed. I have 99+ % TG programmed but I still nearly ALWAY run as "ID SEARCH" waiting for those new TGs to appear -- that's a big part of the hobby.

u have duplicate files on your page...some are "parsed" and others aren't...what is the difference?

another great feature of the 396...u can assign "alerts" to difference talkgroups...the "alerts" let you know what you are listening to without having to look at the screen.

Some were entered by hand -- the "parsed" files were created with program I wrote that takes the RR HTML output and converts it to a UASD file (just saved time but the labels, etc. may not be exactly the way I'd want them).
