Here's a few shots of my former employer's command vehicle. It has since been transitioned into a overweight truck enforcement vehicle. Portable scale's are in place of what you see in the pics as the console.

Nice setup, I haven't seen the headset setup like that, but it's a great idea I like it, and I'm sure it is used a lot.

How did you address the spare tire issue on the expedition???

None of the patrol vehicles carry spare tires. All are used locally. We have contracts with tow services to change tires on squad cars and trucks. Detectives and tac units who regularly go out of town carry spare tires. Been doing it that way from when I started (1971) until I retired (one month ago). Less hassle for the radio / lights / siren install techs.

What?

Good Heavens, Will...you've retired?

I remember the days when you & I would chat each other up @ 1200 baud on the BBS.

Now, my oldest is 17. "Back in the day" she was barely out of the sandbox.

Damn, where does the time go?

Congratulations, Will.

sounds great when your just sitting aroud talking about it, but not when your sitting on the side of the road waiting 15 minutes for a tow truckto make it onscene to be back en route to complete your assignment. All the patrol cars where I work carry a factory space and jack. But if it works for you all more power to ya!

Yes, that sounds great but realize that some departments have specific policies against rank-n-file changing tires on crusiers..mostly because of risk management saying "No".

Loved those pics. Do you have any more pics for this vehicle? Like for the center console? Man he's got a lot of stuff in there...

Is that a repeater in the left side of the trunk console? It looks kinda like a Quantar but I cannot tell from the pics.

I like the Expedition..... That install in the back is sweet....

That pic was taken when the squad was new in 2003. It has since been transitioned over to a truck enforcement vehicle. A set of four portable axle scale's now sit where the rear console was located. The scale's fit into a nice mounting system, and can be slid out for easy handling by the truck enforcement officer.

The radio equipment was placed into a 2006 Chevy Tahoe (police package). Some adjusting had to be done, but it's almost identical to its predecessor in the back.

Since I've retired from the police department, I don't have easy access to take new pictures of the Tahoe.

Oh, there's also a 2005 Expedition that has a similar setup in the rear as the current Tahoe. At least one of these supervisory patrol vehicles will be on display at the Chicagoland Emergency Vehicle Show in August of 2007. For details, go to:

www.emergencyvehicleshow.com

Tons of great pictures in the archive; Our original 2003 Expedition won two awards in '03; Best in show, and best in it's class.
