Act our age??

Solution; Let's all act our age, assuming we're all over twelve, there should be no problems.

Jerry[/QUOTE]

As far as the acting our age comment I assume by this comment you must feel that those who swear on this site are childish?? I agree that it is not necessary to use foul language all of the time but we are all adults and if someone has a problem with the content, language of this site go to some other site!!
If the moderator of this site removed the priveledges of the trash mouth idiots than we would have not problems. There is nothing wrong with swearing to a point but I have more of a problem with the people that call each other names, now that is childish.
Let us swear, why not...... freedom of speech, right??
Have a system set up were if the offensive idiot gets more than 3 complaints about him/her than suspend there priveledges its the easiest way to weed out people who have nothing but time on there hands to nit pick people and make demeaning comments about them.
Thats my opinion anyway but when it comes right down to it I really don't care because I really enjoy this site(best one on the web for scanner freaks like us) and I can just ignore the a**holes who tell each other to f**k off. see that was probable deleted but it still gets the message across.

OK, I'll concede to your opinion. What the forum really needs, is a spelling & grammar censor :) ,ie, trash mouth idiots, THEN (not than), suspend THEIR (not there), etc.

Ahem...

The issue isn't that people are using foul language in the forums.

The issue is that the censoring code is clearly not working as designed, when it randomly censors words like 'glass' and 'scanner' for some people/posts, and not for others.

Furthermore, the downfall of grammar in our society is so far beyond our control that badgering people on any and/or every forum on the Internet will have virtually no impact on the situation.

If one wants to do something productive to improve the look of the forums, beyond fixing the censoring code, one might look at showing people how to use the quote feature properly, especially with nested quotes. ;) (No offense meant to anyone in particular - there're a ton of messages with malformed quotes in them.)

Jay, I took that personally, and I deserved it. I have problems with the new RR software. I know it's my old computers fault. I can't change my time zone, font color & size etc. I just feel that if someone is to chastise me, they should do it properly.

That person is acting their age. They can't type scanner without the board ****** it out.

Thanks for the grammar and spelling corrictions Jerry. After a full day teaching at an alternative school for the kids no one wants to teach the last thing I think about is my spelling, still get my point across. Its ok to agree with my opinion, conceding just sounds like you kind of agree

I'm not sure where we're headed here guys.

I had a simple question;
Can someone tell me why I can't type the word sca ner on this sca ner forum?

( and still can't spell it, even with spaces, commas, etc.)

There is no reason whasoever that you can't use the word scanner on this site. If you can't type it, it is something at your end dealing with this site. Although there is a bit of background checking being done on words here, scanner is not one of them. Look to your own setup first.

While Lou's comment are well intentioned, I seriously doubt there's anything on the user end that causes this; it should all be handled on the server side.

Try logging out of the forum and clear your internet cache (delete temporary files in IE). Then log back in and see if it makes any difference.

I have other things to offer on this topic.

- is Luke, wittingly or unwittingly, running some kind of software that is censoring the word(s) on his end? In other words, is it censored only in the forums, or everywhere on the site? If the latter - is it on RadioReference.com, or on every site on the web?

- With all due respect to Luke, is he pulling our proverbial chains? No one else has experienced the same particular problem - the word 'scanner' being blocked, and there's no proof that he isn't just typing asterisks. (No offense meant, Luke.)

- Having said the above, as mentioned before, others have had curious results from the censoring engine.

- LouMaag - do you know something the rest of us don't about the censoring engine? Was it messed up recently? Has the word list been adjusted? It's clear that wild-card issues existed at one point (when the word 'glass' (etc) with commas, etc., after it, was being mistaken for a censorable word - presumably 'ass'). Has that been addressed?

- Why hasn't Lindsay checked in on this subject? Is he unaware of the situation, or aware and it's a non-issue, or something else altogether?

There is no option for users to set user-specific censoring (i.e. I can type/read scanner, but Luke can't). There is, also, as far as I know, no provision in the vBulletin software for creating user-specific censoring - it's either no one can type/see the word, or everyone can. (Admittedly, I'm basing the last comment on my knowledge and use of phpBB, which I use and admin on several sites.)

I don't know what else to offer.

no problem on this end.

wesct

I can't even quote it

I don't know of any software that I have that would be causing this

I have run into this on other sites however. I cant get into RR's sponsored site because of the same word. Also have run into it on Yahoo groups using that word also. The weird thing is, I can type just about any other word that I want with no problem
