Hello,
I have a co-worker that has a pro 90 and was wondering what is a fair price value? I was considering making him a fair market offer if the scanner's old school technolgy will not become obselete for approx. ten to fifteen years in North Carolina.
Is this Scanner worth purchasing for use in Central N.C. or should I get something close to uniden's trunk tracker III Technolgy? I have a BCD996T but want somthing I can have portable.

well, to know if it would work in your location, we would have to know your county please.

Sorry about that....I Use the scanner mostly for Orange and Durham county when I'm out in the garage. I intend to use it ocasionaly on the road from Wake to Onslow (Carolina Beach) county.

OK: Here are the things in the counties that you said that don't work on the pro-90:

Durham: piedmont communication
Orange: duke energy
Wake: north carolina state university
direct call wake county
Onslow: skitronics

steve k:

You didn't specify if you wanted public safety capabilities. If you do, you may want to reconsider even thinking about the Pro 90.

Orange is on VIPER trunked. I think they use digital talkgroups. Durham is still analog trunked but may add digital talkgroups later. Wake, well, they are all digital trunked on VIPER.

Once rebanding goes through here in NC withing the next year or so, the Pro 90 may be useless in properly trunking Moto systems. (There are a whole lot of factors about rebanding I won't even touch.)

I hope this helps.

That is what I was afraid of and puts me in a love / hate relationship with my 996 receiver. The Pro 90 was mfg in 1997 (if I'm correct) and my co-worker said he gave approx $200. So doing the math it cost approx $20 a year of listening enjoyment with a pro 90.....So is North Carolina In Phase II of APCO 25? If not, that may mean It will cost me around $50 a year of listening enjoyment.
