So I guess the old saying of "If you don't use it, you loose it" may be a bit true. I have a Radio Shack Pro-197 and the USB cable (20-047) and about 4 months ago, was sucessful in uploading from my pc (using Win500) but now fast-forward to present day (4 months later) and not only can I not find my user manual, but I can't get the computer to talk to the scanner. I know I must be leaving out a step somewhere. Anyone that can help, please reply. Thanks.

Since the cable is USB, perhaps something else is now using the port that was used 4 months ago. Go to Control Panel -> System - > Hardware -> Device Manager and see which port has been assigned to the cable. Then make sure you have that port set in WIN500.

Got it. Turns out it was in the connections-settings. My computer was using "port-3" and I was getting an error from "port-18". So, changed the settings to "port-18" and we are back in business. Maybe now I need to take a few computer classes. I do thank you foe your help as it was good to read over the booklets/files sent. That directed me to look at the comm-settings. Have a great weekend all.
