• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I just came across this little option today iv never seen
Optional software license option
SW00156-Terminal Disable CPS read license for subscriber
My guess at this would be what your issue seems to be. Wont let you read the radio itself and would have to program it with a saved codeplug. Kind of a write only thing
Kinda makes sense but you can't add a code plug if the cable doesn't work to program it.

Im sure its a cable/driver problem as iv had that before. But just incase once you get a cable or build one for the rear port and it wont read youll know why. I think it will pop up some error msg saying something

See what happens once you get/build a cable :)

I'm not sure if that license exists in RD982, but I've seen it on HP series radios, such as the HP686-HP786.

The problem is problematic and easily resolved on HP series radios... locally.

"Radio reading not allowed." That's what it says when trying to read. On the H Series

Regards

I appreciate everyones input above and have tried everyones suggestions so far other than this last one.I have ordered a factory Hytera cable and just waiting for its arrival.I will update the thread when it arrives.Hopefully that is the issue.I have tried several different computers and software and driver combos and all are showing a usb not recognized in windows issue so hopefully the factory cable solves the problem.

The simple homemade cable I showed you earlier works very well. I made it, and it's the one I use most often. I read and write correctly, and when I need to update the firmware, I use the microphone method I described earlier!

You shouldn't have any problems at all.

But anyway, it's great that you ordered an original programming cable.
Let's wait to see how it works for you when you get it. If not, you'll tell us what you find negative again.
Let's hope not!

Best regards.

There have been times when I cloned 3 or 4 radios and then the PC droped the usb port connection. I moved it to another port and CPS was happy again.
Tried that as well.Should have a factory cable shortly will update the thread on the progress or lack thereof.

When I was with Bearcom I had a port shut down from Trbo CPS and nothing saw it for the rest of that rental period.
It finally cleared up 4 or 5 days after I got home and spent some time with the disable / remove / rollback / search for new hardware routines.
