Need help in MONCTO for proper scanner to buy

I have researched the scanner frequencies for MONTCO, but am confused about where Lower Providence ended up.

1 - I believe Lower Providence is mostly on the trunked system, but their police dispatches on their own system still. Is this correct?

2 - To pick up various MONTCO police and fire, etc., as well as Lower Providence, do I need a digital scanner? DO I need a trunking scanner?

Thanks for any help. I have been digging quite a bit and actually researching to move into Ham as well. Now it's all starting to mesh together and my brain is frying quickly.

Your best bet all the way around is to get a digital trunking scanner. It can handle the Montgomery county system as well as practically all of the surrounding counties. It cannot handled the Pennsylvania Open Sky system- no scanner currently on the market can.
