I agree! All of the sites are simulcast. The SDS100 and SDS200 are the only scanners specifically designed to receive simulcast sites. Any other scanner may or may not work depending upon your location. The Unication G4 and G5 pagers are excellent at receiving P25 Phase 2 simulcast. However, they can receive only one system and one site at a time, are limited in frequency coverage, and cannot receive conventional frequencies and a trunked system at the same time. You are also limited to 64 talkgroups on a trunked system in each knob position.Since CNYICC is simulcast a SDS100/200 or some SDR's.
As others have stated, I'd get an SDS100 or SDS200. I visit the Syracuse area and my SDS100 works great on CNYICC. Lots of traffic not only from Onondaga but surrounding counties.I’m looking for a new scanner, I’m in Syracuse NY most listening would be on Central New York Interoperable Communications Consortium, Project 25 phase 2. What would be the best scanner For this area? Thanks
What would she like to hear: PD, Fire/EMS, etc? I greatly appreciate what our first responders do for us and it would be my pleasure to create a favorites list for the SDS100 handheld or SDS200 base/mobile to monitor what she would like and keep the operation simple so she basically turns it on and off. If you download and install Uniden Sentinel http://info.uniden.com/UnidenMan4/BCDx36HPSentinel (free software) on your computer, I will attach a file that you can use to program the scanner. I will take you through step by step on how to do it.Appreciate the info. My mother grew up in a law enforcement family ( her father) and I set her up with a whistler 1040 or something like that, it worked for awhile until they switched everything again. At 80 she’s not very active anymore and I wanted to get her something to listen to again.
I appreciate the offer but right now I cant afford a $600 scanner. I don’t have a PC been a Mac guy for decades do to work et. I’m thinking about getting a cheap laptop, dongle and going that route. What would she like to hear: PD, Fire/EMS, etc? Although CNYICC P25 System is Phase 2 capable, the database shows that all of the Onondaga talkgroups are currently Phase 1 (D in Mode column), which the Whistler WS1040 can receive if it is at a location where simulcast distortion is not a problem. How did you program the WS1040? I can help with a programming file for that also. I have ARC500, Win500, and PSREdit500 programming software.I appreciate the offer but right now I cant afford a $600 scanner. I don’t have a PC been a Mac guy for decades do to work et.
