Just picked up a 197. Great scanner, but I'm not sure if I have it programed correctly. I'm using the Butel software that came with it. Presently monitor Ottawa, Muskegon, and Kent counties in Michigan. I'm about 8 miles from the MPSCS tower in Allendale. I'm not sure I entered the digtal/trucking information correctly. Any input is welcome

Thanks

As for Kent and Ottawa counties as long as you got the control channels in for each county and corresponding talkgroups for each county you should be ok and you have it set as P25Auto. As for Muskegon those are still conventional channels.

See if this guide will help, I believe it matches the software your using.

Thanks for the information on the software. My problem is understanding the differences between control channels and talk groups and what to enter wherer. The only P25 that I now receive comes up as "Vice" and it's encripted.

Allendale tower should have these control freqs. 868.4625
& 868.9625. In Trunk systems for MI Public Safety double click under Frequencies cell to verify.

I imported these Div 6 talkgroups to scanlist 1 but didn't find "Vice".

This is my first trunking scanner, and I'm still confused on several things. I found the Allendale control freqs, but don't understand why you pick the two you did. Also "you stated in the truck systems for MI Public Safety double click under Frequencis cell to verify...unable to find what you have asked me to do.

because this is a control channel (CC) only scanner for Motorola or P25 systems and MPSCS is P25. 868.9625 is a CC and 868.4625 is Alt CC. Unless you select otherwise, ARC500 RR import on the system will set those two frequencies for the TSYS and set it's type to P25 Auto.

I entered the control channels and imported some div 6 talkgroups to the scanlist, and now I get "please select at least one site. searched the software instructions and found nothing. Loading the convential channels was a breeze . It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Anyone have a file they'de like to share?

The site check box is on the left side of import dialog and are in alpha order. Check the Allendale box, then Div 6 box + any other area box's of choice on right side then click Scanlist tab for scanlist check box.

Then click green import button.

ARC takes considerable time to quarry the gigantic MPSCS, so be patient.
Win500 loads system faster and PSREdit even faster.
