This morning I'm picking up two new 380 MHz P25 control channels that appear to be coming from north of Wichita Falls. Somebody in the Lawton area should see if they hear it. I could not find the system ID/WACN combination in the database.

Unitrunker reports:
WACN 00001
System ID 321
Callsign CBQ?
MFID Motorola
Band plan appears to be Phase I only

Site 001-001
386.0875 C (too weak to decode)

None appeared to be encrypted.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but a while back I noticed this job posting for a temporary RF tech at Fort Sill to support a training excersice. Maybe they set up a temporary trunked system.

Maybe it isn't an excercise and Fort Sill is migrating to a nationwide DoD system but the system ID & WACN combination doesn't appear to be in the database anywhere. I'll see if it disappears in a few weeks.

Their current system is Harris. This new one is Motorola.

Hmm... Its site set up is an Harris style set up. That is definitely Harris way of Zone/Site infrastructure. Each site also its own zone. Motorola ASTRO-25 would have the Zone/Site more like: RFSS 1, Site 001, Site 002, Site 003. I would watch this a little more closely, as that is probably actually an Harris P25IP. Possibly upgrade by Harris to its standing system.

Fort Sill might be increasing the number of sites or Altus might be introducing a new system or they might be combining. The Fort Sill system went online when I was there in 2007-2008 time frame, and never really worked as it was supposed to and that is why the Police and Fire went to OKWIN, 1. for interopability and 2. because of the problems. Several times all of the mobiles would pop up with NET FAIL and just freeze or the system would just say BUSY on the portables for several minutes when I never observed that system get anywhere near capacity.

A couple months or so ago before this new system appeared they did something to the current system.
Some of the control channels are broadcasting neighbor site control channels which are different than what are actually used, and they are not frequencies used by the new system.

Unitrunker thinks the new system is a Motorola system. Conditions haven't been good enough today to run the new version of Unitrunker on either system and see if anything changed.

If they were just adding sites why whould the new sites have a different system ID and WACN and same site numbers?

I don't think it's Altus, they just put in a VHF P25 system less than 2 years ago. It doesn't have the same system ID but it does broadcast 380, 700 and 800 MHz band plans along with the VHF one for some reason.

It does not appear that there are any more sites.

These 3 new sites are a lot weaker than the old system, too weak to hear audio on a 396T. That leads me to think it could be a temporary system either field deployed or at lower levels on existing towers. It appears to be coming from the direction of Lawton but I still can't confirm 100% that it is at Fort Sill. I can definitely rule out Sheppard AFB .
