J Just became a new Premium member yesterday and had to shout about my new radios! Found a used but mint 996T in the box with all the goodies at the Salem Ham Swap a few weeks ago and Frida splurged on the BCD436HP. It has been decades since buying a scanner so yeah, I'm used to the channel and band setup, so the new way of dynamic programming and mapping was a tough nut to crack for my pea sized brain. While I was doing ok with manual entry on the 996, the 436 was a struggle. I just could not get the favourite list to cooperate and scan what I wanted . Plenty of "nothing to scan" pop ups and I spent at least 20 hours on the 436, to no avail. Even hand entered the local ham repeaters hoping I could scan those. Nope.

Was at my wits end. I had watched every Youtube video possible, Googled everything, read countless threads here and yes, the manual. Headaches and tiredness just wore me out. So today I took a different approach and thought I'd try different software and VOILA!!! No clue why it suddenly worked but am I so glad! Everything is working well and I'm thrilled at having a few new scanners! I look forward to tons of listening and reading here in the forum!

Welcome. It does take some time to get the new way of programming.
I am 100 or so miles north of you. I have both radios. My 996T has been running nearly 24/7 since it was new in 2006, still working great.

There are a couple of major causes of the dreaded Nothing to Scan message. Using Sentinel, you need to make sure all of the service types are enabled in the profile editor. Also, both Download and Monitor need to be On for each favorites list you want to scan. Download sends the favorites list to the scanner. Monitor enables it to scan. What programming software are you using for the 996T and 436HP?

I have both Sentinel and the trial version of Proscan. I am getting to know Sentinel well but tried everything I could. Exhausted forum threads even!
I'll go check out my Sentinel and see if I missed those you mentioned.

ProScan is the best. And if you have any issues with the program, Bob (ProScan creator) is just an email away. He recently (and swiftly) helped me with an issue I was having. The program is definitely worth the price...many times over.
