Hold onto your hats here, Folks, more information just heard. An incident is in progress as I type, and dispatcher just advised all units involved to switch back to "Analog 1", so I would not delete any programming for the old analog frequency/PL tone just yet!

I made the changes in the database to reflect both P25 and analog use. We'll keep it that way until such time that we can confirm (or deny) they are using P25 full time.

It was a fun listen though....definitely some growing pains, but that's certainly to be expected. From a listener standpoint I thought the system sounded very good.

me as well i thought the system worked very well, but i noticed a few glitches, medics from stat and other contractors were transmitting on analog but dispatch was on digital and dispatch couldn't hear most of the north end units, especially the far north end. the contractor medics couldn't hear dispatch answering so they kept repeating themselves and dispatch was getting annoyed, i could hear it in the dispatchers voice, lol. it was very interesting indeed!!!

New Bedford PD transitioning to digital Aug.1st

The New Bedford Police department will be transitioning from analog to digital, tentatively scheduled for August 1st, 2012. i heard this from a very reliable source. the repair garage had to replace a few older radios in some of the cruisers and also some of the special unit cars. the radio techs also had to tweak some of the programming which they fixed. so they should be good to go this time around.

here is the new channel plan:

digital ch.1 482.5875 NAC:232 (dispatch)
digital ch.2 482.9125 NAC:233 (records)
ch.3 482.3875 PL:203.5 (simplex) car-car (analog)
ch.4 463.7125 DPL: 243 (analog) New Bedford EMS
ch.5 452.4500 DPL:243 (analog) CITYWIDE INTEROP
ch.6 analog ch.1 482.5875 PL:203.5 (dispatch) analog back-up
ch.7 analog ch.2 482.9125 PL:203.5 (records) analog back-up
the police department also has access to the fire department channels

Merged a few threads into one. Lets try to keep everything in one thread instead of creating new ones every time there is new info. Thanks.

I apologize up front to my naivete to all things digital, does this mean we can or cannot monitor NBPD with a digital scanner? How about NBFD? I have been monitoring those 2 agencies for the past 30 years with my analog radios/scanners.

Yes if you have a digital capable scanner you may still pick up NBPD. There are no changes to new bedfkrd fire, they still operate in analog. However they do have a new digital frequency on 471.1500 with a NAC of 868. Check the database for new bedford.

Unfortunately, the RR feed for NB PD, Fire, EMS at New Bedford Police, Fire, and EMS Live Scanner Audio Feed obviously has an analog only receiver and all of the NBPD transmissions are coming through as the digital hash of an unprocessed P25 digital signal.

KB1UAM -- you seem seem to have good inside knowledge of the NB radio freqs. A couple weeks ago, when there were two incidents active on the fire department channels, they were telling some people to move some misc, unrelated traffic to "channel 16". They definitely didn't show up on VHF marine 16, and I didn't hear them on any other freq in the database.

Do you have any idea what "channel 16" is on the FD handhelds? Perhaps low power simplex fireground?

TIA

While chatting last weekend with a NB policeman I made an open ended comment of "I hear you have a new radio system".

He gives the system rave reviews .... "Sounded like the dispatcher was sitting in my back seat." "I don't have to turn the volume way up to be able to understand dispatcher".

He did say that there were a few dead spots, but also said that they seemed to be fewer than with the analog system. He specifically mentioned that his reception inside the police building (HQ? branch substation?) was better than with the old system.

It looks like they are going to stay running digital. Oh well. I needed an excuse to buy a new scanner.
