Decided to consolidate a couple of desks and other various and sundry storage bits into one desk. Kind of a rush job...the trim on the front needs to be bent and put on and I'm going to go with one or two keyboard drawers.

And, shockingly, I haven't had time to set up the scanners yet. Oh well, maybe by the end of the week.

Monitors are for, from left to right, trunker computers and stream server, trunker computer, main computer for email and stuff and two monitors for my Avid.

To the right of the image is my own little central racks. Not much there yet, a black generator, a video DA and a video patch bay. Video and audio cabling still has to be done...ho hum, lotsa work yet to do...including cleaning up after myself!

I've got a KVM switch already! Unfortunately the two monitor Avid setup doesn't allow me to share monitors with another machine. However at the moment I have 4 CPUs running off 1 keyboard, mouse and monitor.

You need to get some LCD monitors to replace those CRTs.
They would give you more room - but would divert money from buying new scanners.

That's the plan, man. Currently new lighting gear is sapping my paychecks so LCDs are going to have to wait for a while. All of those monitors cost me, in total, around $80 CDN so I'll keep 'em until I can afford some LCDs.

Hey hey hey...that's an AVID keyboard...those colours are for us idiot savant editors who can't remember which key does what but intuitively know that the blue buttons toggle video and audio tracks, for example.

i'm currently wrestling with a pair of 17" crt's in my setup, they look ok but dear god do they spit out RF noise - filthiest things i've ever heard. Flat panels are coming in the next paycheck.

broadband birdies every few khz on 75 meters. Fortunately I can shift the frequencies of the qrm by changing the refresh rates on the monitors, lol.

I do about the same thing here ( I am finishing up some projects then will post pics) but I use 2 kvms. a 4 port on the servers and a 2 port between that and my regualr desktop. bsically I plug the monitors into the desktop direct then pulg anopther monitor into the 4 port. then I use 1 keyboard and mouse and switch beween them and can control 5 CPU's and 3 seperate monitors.....Just a thought....

I view, and control my other computers using RealVNC over my home network. If you have decent hardware, it's almost as fast as direct connect. It's free too! The other computers don't even have monitors, keyboards, or mice connected to them.

Hmmm...interesting. I didn't see anything there about hardware requirements...I assume it's more of a network throughput issue than a processing power thing.

Greatlakes, take a look at tightvnc, talk about fast.
It really strips down the vnc code to give you a much cleaner faster setup.

Until we purchased the licenses for networkstreaming.com setups we used tightvnc and remote desktop for all support related remote computing.

VNC is great but keep in mind that Windows Remote Desktop actually draws the widgets natively, instead of sending compressed pictures of what the desktop should be. That, and it supports streaming audio, too, so you can pipe audio into and out of the computers you're accessing.

In a 100 mbit lan situation I'd pick remote desktop, you don't have to minimize bandwidth/latency and Remote Desktop looks and works a lot better.

I tried every flavor of VNC out there and settled on Remote Desktop for viewing, and Synergy 2 for control (a truly brilliant and wonderful application).
