Effective today, DPS has reorganized their Troops. I've attached a .gif map to this post that was given to me by a friend. If I can figure out how to get it out in the rr.com database, i'll do so (Jason, help! :) )

Warren,

Have DPS gone and bump their collective heads again! This is the old set-up from when I started as a PCO back in 1989. They waste more resources with these "realinement and reorganization" that they could have bought and paid for a radio system probalby twice over.
Oh Man, this is the type of stuff I DO NOT miss.

This one is very close in representation to the original "Alabama Highway Patrol" regions from it's origin in 1935. 'What goes around, comes around...'

Looks like what wasn't broken that was fixed before is what DPS should have stuck with in the first place!

Ahh, the good ole days are still long gone, eh Steve? I'm still hopeful that the new leadership can effect positive changes for DPS. The folks on the bottom sure need it in some areas!

What I miss about DPS is what I missed when I still worked there.

With the new/old troops comes callsign changes also.
I know the Montgomery has stayed with the 100 series just changed letters.
The Alexander City Post/Field Office (whatever they call it today) appears to be using the 300 series. I have heard G320 and G335 (I think) today. I haven't heard what series the Opelika Post is using now. So all you Alabama folks start listening and let's try to learn the new/old callsign scheme so Jason can add it to the database. I have an idea that the number portion are be repeated and repeated Statewide just the letter will be different.
What do you think Jonathan? The PCOs will be tearing their hair out and their eyes off.

Hey Everybody,

Im a PCO for the Tuscaloosa Post and our new director kicks a**. We also have a new assitant director as of like last week, so more changes are proabably to come. Ill look into the unit call signs for you. As for Tuscaloosa we are D-100s and the Selma post is D-200s.

Welcome DC07

Who is the new asst director? What happen to Goodner?
If he is still at Loosa, tell Sgt. Summers I said howdy.

I did learn that Opelika kept the same numbers, just changed letter (G).

Goodner stepped down for family reasons, Steve.

You'll never believe this one; Bubba Bingham is the new number two! He began his DPS career as a PCO!

DPS web site has already made the change.

Welcome DC-07, PCO in Tide Town! I am the former AC-02 in Q*C!

Before y'all ask, yes, PCOs have call signs. You just never hear them over the air much.

NO not Alex City Budda Bingham! A long way from PCO and Corporal at Alex City to DPS 2.
Yeah Jonathan at least I knew your callsign. Never did learn what mine was supposed to be. I wish Goonder the best.

Along the lines of DPS reorganization, I found this at the AL State Trooper Association's web page:

"DPS is looking to replenish the ranks of the State Trooper Reserve program. Retirees interested in becoming a Reserve Trooper can contact their local trooper post for more information."

I'm not sure when or if this opportunity will be extended beyond Department retirees. I feel that it will. For those that might be interested, call your local Trooper Post and inquire! Be sure of the fact that a thorough background check will be performed for all applicants! Unless the notice is tucked away somewhere, I have not seen anything about the Reserve program on the official DPS web page.

Yes, I am thinking about joining the program. If I do, I would make sure that I would be allowed to operate radios in the Posts and, most especially, the Command Post!

Jonathan, DPS is planning to revive the reserve program. Retired Captain Franklin is being retained to help set up the program statewide. I am not sure who they are planning on recruiting for the program. I understand the retirees are the primary focus of the program at present. Each post was told to designate a supervisor to coordinate reserves for their post.
