• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Thank you for sharing. I try my best to put CPS 2.0 out of my mind, as every version has some sort of hex error and impacts aliasing in my own network. Grant I am combining ASTRO and Trbo digital via analog and Zetron IP interfaces. But, this feature might be useful for larger sites with many contacts that need to be imported.

That's awesome. I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal with cps2 is. I have been hesitant to upgrade to it because all I ever hear about is how horrible it is. For a hobbyist is there really enough of an issue that I shouldn't upgrade?

The issue is that CPS 2.0 is an after thought. The plan was to EOL CPS and only support RM so when the masses rebelled a CPS 2.0 was born with a new "modern" code base and without some of the features of CPS. If as a hobbyist you are happy with what you have then no need to move forward and pay for what was once free (SUM) but if you want any of the recent enhancements to TRBO, like Talker Alias then you need to move forward. Also, if you send a subscriber to depot for repair when it comes back it will be on "current" firmware and you will have to move forward.

Good to know, thanks. How exactly does RM work?

RM looks a lot like CPS 2.0, but it is in a client / server setup. It helps if you maintain a lot of radios and if you want to program/update radios over the air or over wifi. I have some mining and power generation/distribution customers who have huge systems (above 40 sites) and above 10k radios. Managing these systems would be a major pain without RM. For example, want to add a channel or make a small change in a few thousand radios? In old days, you touched each radio. Now I push it over the air or over wifi. TT
