• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What next? Discontinue programming via cables, because they have genders? Wifi programming only which eliminates all gender issues entirely.

Next they'll switch all radios over to the ancient GR Type 874 RF connector for reasons obvious to anyone who is familiar with it.... or APC 7. For similar reasons.

Take the gender neutral receiver rod and insert it into the matching Gender neutral rod receiving port

Some actual news about this release is that you can now load ADP keys into the MACE via CPS.

Previously this was not possible. If you wanted to load ADP keys to the radio via CPS, it had to be set to Software secure mode, else you needed to use a KVL when set to Hardware secure mode.

You can now set the secure mode to Hardware, then select the ADP/RC4 algo, enter the Key Data and Key ID, then write the codeplug.

Note that you cannot read them back once they are loaded into the MACE. Reading the radio will result in the algo field(s) defaulted to N/A and the Key Data/Key ID fields obfuscated with asterisks.

Interesting! I saw it mentioned that you can OTAR ADP now but didn't catch this.

I know before I say this that the reason why it's not happening will of course be "security" but I keep hoping that any and all manufacturers would allow encryption keys to be loaded via CPS. Not read back, of course. Just loaded. Of course the reason is also "money" as well. Gotta sell that keyloader for a ton of money! And the algos, too! And the key management software! Why give anything away for free when the customer will pay thousands for it?

Well, a guy can dream.

Yeah the release notes make it sound like it's for OTAR scenarios only, but I tested it last night and it works fine with a one-off radio.

This was buried down the near the bottom. Also, 3 MB is not 3 MB until your told what 3 MB really is.

Added support for determining total codeplug size. CPS will not permit a codeplug with a packed
size (the size of the image that will be programmed into the device) larger than 3 MB to be
written to the radio.

During a read, write or clone the size of the packed codeplug (in MB) will be
displayed in the CPS Output window.

○ If write or clone fails due to the packed codeplug size exceeding the limitation, we
recommend deleting least used Voice Announcements or TTS Announcements to reduce
the total size.
○ Disclaimer: The 3MB file size cannot be determined by referencing the .mc file created
by CPS/RM
