Help....I have been involved with scanning in the B'ham area since the early '60's. Since the trunking systems came along, my listening has been very limited. My last scanner purchase was a Pro-2006 way back when they first came out. I am thinking about getting a trunking scanner but would like to get some advice from you guys here. I'd appreciate your opinions and advice on a handheld, mobile and desk top model. Not looking for a lot of bells and whistles, just be able to monitor the trunks.
Thanks,
Dave

Another Dave! :D I have the Pro-96 (handheld) and the Bearcat BCD996T (base). I love both of them. You can't go wrong with either.

Thanks for the replies and advice. How about comments on difficulty in programming the trunking info into these units?
Thanks,
Dave

Find a friend that already has the frequencies you want and ask him for the file.... lol.... RIGHT DAVE911????

Personally, had it not been for Dave, I would have taken mine back. The owners manual is very difficult to understand if you are not familiar with "the new type scanners and the freqencies". win96 program helped a lot, but only after Dave set me up a file. Otherwise, it seemed very difficult.

I've been very happy with my PRO-96. The V-scanner feature makes the PRO-96 priceless to me. No more having to reprogram the scanner and decide which frequencies to listen to when I go on a trip - I can program in them all!! :)

I can't comment on how it is to program in trunking information by hand, since I use Don Starr's WIN-96 software to program it. In fact, when I got my PRO-96, I had already purchased WIN-96 and created all my files for it. It was nice to be able to completely program a scanner in under a minute!

Whatever digital trunking scanner you buy, buy the software and programming cable as well. It will save you a lot of time and effort (and frustration) over programming it by hand.
