I know its been a while since I have posted here, so I thought I'd drop in. I went today & decided to purcahse a new toy. I got a PRO-97 ( I know, its not digital. Not enough around Salisbury to justify that much yet.) , 800 duckie, and programing cable, all for under $200.00. If anyone is interested, the RS USB cable (Cat no. 20-047), usually retails for 24.99, I got for $1.97. They said it was on clearance. I downloaded the Win 97 software, and I have to say it was a booger to get used to, but once I did, piece of cake. I wil be purchasing my key later this week. The scanner was on sale for $149.99, I didn't figure that was too bad a deal. Lookin foward to gettin back in the game. Talk to everyone later !!!

Congrats on the new PRO-97. I find it interesting that you mention that the RS USB cable is on clearance.

Yeah, it kinda suprised me too. I asked the salesman for it, and he said this is $24.99. When he scanned it at the register, it came up on clearance for $1.97. Thought that was kinda odd too. Anyone else have any insight to this?

Congrats on your purchase FD5722. The Pro97 is still my only scanner so far and I love it. A friend (who isn't a radio enthusiast) thought I was nuts for spending $150 on it since you can buy scanners for $90 or less. Of course if all you're doing is taking it to the Nascar track that's probably enough but I wanted the extra coverage and features.

I've bought a few antennas to replace the mediocre ducky that comes with it. I got the 800 from RS, the telescoping and a Diamond RH77CA. I use the Diamond a lot because it's just a nice general purpose antenna (works great on my 70cm HT too.)

Let us know what kind of catches you are getting. I am still using a Win97 file that Grog created a while back and it's great.

Yea , I think they made an ERROR personally. The older shack cables now that I could buy but the USB , think they might have goofed.

Well I live in Rowan County, so of course thats in Bank 0, monitoring the Salisbury / Rowan TRS. Bank 1 has the NC VIPER Faith Mtn Site, plenty of action there also. Bank 2 has all the CCs for VIPER, with all the VIPER TGs there. Bank 3 is the Cabarrus TRS, and Bank 4 is the Char / Meck TRS. Still workin on the programmin for 3 & 4, just got tired of sittin in front of the computer last night. I tell ya, Win 97 is a life saver. I programmed one of these before by and, and it almost met an untimely demise, so computer programming all the way. Anyways, thanks for the responses so far!!

I just tried to buy one in Charlotte, NC and the salesman scanned it and the 20-047 came up as $29.99 and not on sale. The web site also lists it as 29.99. You got a deal!

Cable was on sale...I think it is over

I got one of those cables last week in TN...came up to about $3.75. I think the sale is over. They had it on clearance and then sime kinda 30% manager sale. RS has some kinda fuzzy math going on. It just depends on which store you are in. I use that cable on my pro-97, Pro-96 and my Pro 2055. I bought both the WIN97 and WIN96.....do not know how I got along without them.

Congrats on your new scanner !!!!

Yeah, they had to have goofed on the pricing. I'm thinking that they were probably trying to clear out the serial cables and mistakenly marked the USB. Well, it all in your favor, good for you, those USB cables are over priced anyways. If your going to be listening to mostly 800mhz trunking then the RS800 is a great little antenna to purchase. I have one and it works great picking up Charlotte from Cabarrus County. Looked at the Seeker800 but it was kinda pricely for my blood....... Been wanting to Grab a Diamond RH77CA for Ham listening but haven't got around to it.

Didn't realize you were so close Orbital. Rowan here. I'll be in Cabarrus during the day a good bit next week during the day, got all of the Cabrrus stuff programmed up so I can listen. I live in Granite Quarry, and I still get a 95 - 97% on Cabarrus's CC from my house. Nice to know we have so many RR members close by. Where would I go about finding one of the Diamond antennas?

Same here, I'm glad we have some members close by..... Well to be honest, I haven't seen any Diamonds in stores. The only place I really know you could pick one up is from an online store that sells them. Wish there was some local store close by that carried them but i don't know of any.
I've provided a link below where I plan to purchase mine. $21.95 not a bad price
