Greetings everyone,

TRUNK88 has recorded a new talkgroup in use on the City of Regina Motorola trunked system. TG decimal 33, Uniden format 528 seems to be being programmed and tested. Several Fire portables have affiliated and transmitted on the new talkgroup. I have not actually heard anything yet, this information is all from logs.

I'm guessing this may be some sort of mutual aid talkgroup, since RFD has more than enough talkgroups already.

Can everyone in Regina please enter and monitor this talkgroup on their scanners and let us know what if anything you hear? Even if all you hear is "Test 1,2,3", please let us know. Every bit of information will help. Hopefully we can identify this new talkgroup.

LOL!

I just erased that TG last night when I saw it in Trunk88. I just chalked it up to one of those talk groups that Trunk88 seems to create once in a blue moon. I've just put it in the 246T and put an alert beep on it. The next time Trunk88 records it, I'll have to keep it this time round.

Thanks for the heads up Rob.

Regards,
Richster.

The mystery deepens here. The talkgroup is in use now. I just heard a short conversation about getting rides home. Anyone know if RFD is involved in any projects or activities? It's not the season for the Firefighters Circus. Any other ideas anyone? There may be something going on this weekend, or perhaps next week. Keep listening everyone.

This new talkgroup is active this weekend. I've only heard a little bit, but it is quite clear this new talkgroup is being used to co-ordinate drivers and logistics for some sort of sports tournament in town. Perhaps curling, or some other sports, but definitely a team sport of some sort. Talk of hotels, drivers, etc. Lots of first names being used.

I've only logged 4 radios on this talkgroup, therefore it is very likely only a temporary talkgroup programmed into a small number of radios. It is very likely (since it's only a few radios) that this talkgroup will be deleted from the radios after this tournament or sports event finishes.

I'll keep it in programmed into my scanners, but I don't expect much after this weekend.

I would think it is just rental radio's used by shuttle vans for special events. MTS does it hear in Winnipeg a few times a year for special events such as the Operation Red Nose, sporting events such as the recent Grey Cup and every year the Fringe Festival rents a pile of radios from them .

I don't want you guys using buggy versions of TRUNK88 for systems analysis, so I'll send the latest and greatest bleeding edge version to Rob and if he's thinks it's OK, he can pass on a copy.

I thought I was using the latest 4.53 version. It's just damn great. I especially like how it automatically sorts all the RIDs into their most used TG, and the fact I can now view the TGs and RIDs in DECIMAL format.

Although I don't run TRUNK88 365 days of the year, I have run TRUNK88 for 30 days straight once, and I had a decode rate of 100% with an AVG of 99.9%. No crashes occured. In fact it has never crashed.

There was an instance a couple of months ago where I had TG 422 show up which appeared to bogus. You could tell this TG was bogus because there was no affiliations to it, and there was no comm traffic. I haven't seen onother bogus one show up since. Another nit-pick item is that interconnects flash in and out furiously, but I've gotten used to it.

If you do have a "greatest bleeding edge version" that would be great Andy.

Rob, in terms of that TG 528 mystery, something was going on at the Highland Curling Club. These two guys named Mike and Phil would take people from the Howard Johnson to the Highland and visa-versa. On Saturday night they also took people to various night clubs around the city. I'll watch the sports on TV tonight to see what was up, but I never heard anything on the radio nor TV so far about a big curling event in town.

Richster.

Like most TRUNK88 features, decimal and TrunkTracker decimal formats were added to handle my needs; decimal for working with Motorola radios and TT decimal for scanners. It's a good thing that my needs sometimes match those of other users. :)

That's good to hear. I tend to keep it running on an old laptop, monitoring one of our local SmartZone systems, to stress test it and to look for any odd behaviour, and it rarely, if ever, dies.

A new talkgroup would show up if it appeared in a patch/MSEL announcement or a status message (from a radio). Logging OSW traffic is really helpful for tracking down these issues, but I realize that full time OSW logging isn't practical for many users.

The interconnect issue should be taken care of in version 4.55; please let me know if it still isn't fixed.

If you do have a "greatest bleeding edge version" that would be great Andy.
Rob is evaluating version 4.55; if he gives it the green light, we're good to go.

As SCNNR pointed out, most likely borrowed radios for some sort of tournament. Perhaps a firefighters curling league or tournament? Who knows? We'll probably never know. As I suspected, the talkgroup has been inactive since the weekend. Seeing these were City of Regina radios, they were likely borrowed for the event, a donation to the cause. I doubt the City would charge rent, but they might ask for a cost recovery for programming radios.
