New to scanners, help please?

I have an old scanner that really doesn't work well and would like to buy a new one. I'm a bit overwhelmed by what is out there.

I live in Connecticut. I'm interested in knowing what is going on around the area I live in. When the mountains close and I can't use them... etc. Storm info, etc.

Can you offer any guidance, please?

Can you give us a specific city/county in Connecticut? Then someone can look at the freqencies in your area and advise you better.

Welcome to Radioreference MimiS.

Having a quick look at the Connecticut database shows me that the Connecticut State Police are using digital radios.

You may wish to purchase a BCD 996T or BCD 396T from Uniden , or the Pro 2096 or the Pro 96 from Radioshack. Check the WIKI page on this site to compare features and such.
Perhaps you can join the discussion in your state forum to see what the "other guys" are using and perhaps they can fill you in on some interesting local stuff.

Yes. On the main forum menu, go to the section titled "Equipment For Sale". There is a wide variety of radio equipment and scanners that can be found. I have purchase a couple scanners from members on this site.
