Just bought a pro 106 radio shack scanner from radio shack. I think i followed the instrucions right. I just want to listen to Washington county police and have the option of changing the playlist with the v-scanner menu. I can hear just the police dept, but it comes in garbled and scratchy. I live near cabelas and the squelch signal seems to come in strong. I dont know what im doing wrong. Thanks for yoiur help

The first thing i have to ask before i can help is, how new are you to scanning? How much do you know? If I can understand how much you know, the better i can help, or direct you to a forum that has all your answers.

very new

I know next to nothing. I downloaded the programming from this website with a cable i got from radio shack. I,ve been comparing what my scanner says to what the washington county feed says and sometimes i miss things on my scanner. I just want to hear the police not the fire and ambulances. The instructions for the scanner are confusing and with the trunking. Thank you

Here's some advice for you as you try to figure out you scanner, and the systems you will be putting into it. You should do some research on the RR Wiki to help you understand things like how a Trunked radio system works, or what a talkgroup is and how it relates. This should better help you understand what you have and how to work it. In addition, you should also look over Radio Shack Scanners - The RadioReference.com Forums, because you might find previous threads that have similar problems you are having. Radio shack's manual mostly goes over how the scanner features work, but not how the systems you put in it actually work. I will say the PRO 106 is a very advanced scanner, and one of the few that can listen to digital communications. Because of this, it can confuse many, especially to beginners. I should know, my first scanner was an advanced one, and I had so much confusion.

Otherwise, here is my next question. "What Program are you using to download Washington county to you scanner?" I may have a hunch of what is going on, but I want to make sure

Wille, the first thing you need to do is fully understand the way your scanner stores information in it's memory. Nothing is going to make sense to you until you fully understand that system, then you can move on to learning how to use the programming software you bought.

The Pro-106 is a "V-scanner" that uses GRE's Object Oriented Memory system. The system is more flexible than the traditional bank/channel systems that older/cheaper scanners use[d], but it is also more complex.

The best place for you to start is to read the "Easier to Read Pro-106 Scanner Manual". The RR Pro-106 Wiki page has some good infor as well as external links to other helpful sites.
