I noticed new tones on the end of the normal station alerting tones today on both Sac County and Sac City dispatch, VHF and 800. It sounds just like the SSD 211 tones. Anyone else notice this? Anyone know if it is used for more than just a dispatch heads up? I also wish they would put all the station alerting tones on 800.

I noticed it as well. It strikes me as some type of failure since it's not the old 5-tone or DTMF. They're also dispatching them with operations channel being assigned, but it's just the normal operation channels.

If it is I like it, it gives a good heads up to a dispatch when just monitoring 800.

I noticed that also, it has been that way for a few days.

I also noticed that when a city medic enters an "A2" area they have been coming up on A2 and letting dispatch know and the same for a Metro/AMR medic on B2. It has been both while in transport and when AOR.

Old thread, but forgot to update:

I talked to the guys from Station 62? (Folsom/Coloma area) a few days after this started, and they said they showed up for work one day, and the new tones were being used. They said they had no idea why the system changed, and there was no memos or anything.

They said they still get the run report on the station printer, but they didn't answer about station-house alerting (I guess that's done by VHF 2-tone or DTMF, right?).

Yes, it is 2-tone on 154.190 for county and 153.890 for city and all that seems to be the same with the exception of the new tones at the end that are broadcast of both VHF and 800.

I must be missing something. These new tones that I hear are exactly like the 211 tones on the PD and SO channels. How are they alerting anyone? They don't sound like they carry any significance other than a "listen to me" quality.

The new tones that sound like the 211 tones are tagged on to the end of the normal old station alerting tones on VHF. The station alerting tones are not on 800, only VHF. The new "211" tones are on both VHF and 800. So now when a call is dispatched the station alerting tones go out on VHF then the "211" tones go out on VHF and 800 then the voice dispatch goes out on VHF and 800. I do think the new "211" tones are used for a "listen to me" quality only but not for sure.
