Several months ago our neighborhood group received notification from Douglas County about a new communications tower being put in about a mile away (see attached PDF). I assume this will be an additional tower on the DTRS South Simulcast system as it references coverage for DCSO, CSP, etc.

Attached are some pictures as I have watched it go up off Perry Park Rd./105. Sort of a weird spot as: 1) I already receive really strong coverage from at least two other system towers) 2) The tower sits very low compared to the surrounding area. At any rate at least my reception should be crystal clear!

As of today the tower is up and they are completing infrastructure. No antennas up yet. The similar sites I have seen use two omni antennas and what looks like a microwave link. Now if they could only add some cell antennas so I could get coverage at the house...

It was sold to the county as coverage for the Stone Canyon Outdoor Education Center area and approximate six-mile section of Highway 105. It is likely intended to be a gap site for portable radio coverage in the area.

I don't see anything in the FCC records, not even pending, tied to that vicinity yet.
The existing South Simulcast licenses were modified in October to include the new site.

Well I would rather there be more coverage than less...this will sit somewhere between the towers in Larkspur and Palmer Lake. For those familiar the tower in Larkspur sits just behind the large church leaving town onto I-25.

It has been interesting watching the work on this. So often these are on top of mountains or other inaccessible areas and not right off a well traveled road.

Why didn't you climb to the top? :D LOL!

The microwave dish is more than likely the dedicated link to the tower. I believe some use dedicated copper or fiber links, too. Like a dedicated phone line or something. I don't know how the system is built... Just know that much.

Let me know if they add a propane tank. That would be for the backup generator. All towers should have that... Or at least natural gas hook up. Diesel and gasoline would be a no go since it ages... Then the logistics of having to swap it out would make absolutely no sense.

A little off topic, but my mother used to work for a retirement home and they have an on site diesel backup generator. They run/test it every now and then (maybe every morning) but I'm thinking "why?!" They should have gone NG!
