I just bought a pro-94 on ebay and am new to scanning. I understand just about everything but trunking. I know how to tune to local airports and such but trunking has got me confused. I just want to be able to listen to my local police department. I've looked at the frequencies in the database so I don't need to know those, i just need help with putting it in my scanner and getting it all to work. Can anyone help me out with this?

I followed all the directions but it seems like it isnt working right. when i program all the frequncies and press scan then search it seems like 1 out of 10 times it catches the 8400 talk group. all the other times it just keeps rotating through the frequencies. The "easier to read pro 94 manual" i am using online says to check fleet maps. Could this be the problem?

Welcome to the forum bigred,

With no posting history we don't have a hint of where you are located so you need to help us help you by providing your state/county/city.

8400 is Police Dispatch, so you will likely hear it more then others.

You can program the talkgroups into the scan list and use SCAN, then toggle list on/off to suite what you want to listen to.

BTW, do you hear a control frequency noise? I ask because none is indicated on the database page for West Chester.

the modem noise? yeah i hear that on 855.7375. I've only heard 8400 and even that is every couple minutes. Its seems like I should be hearing much more. Is is picking up all of the other talkgroups and i'm just not tuning to them?

If you are in ID SEARCH, it will pick up everything. If ID SCAN, only unlocked programmed IDs in toggled on Scan List's.

It seems like I hear 5 minutes of a lot of action then 30 minutes of dead silence. Maybe this is normal?
Could be...it appears two townships are using the system and if you are using ID search any traffic in either should be heard. ID's are listed for Police, Fire and city services. Bucko, another Ohioan is 170 miles to the east. Maybe a question regarding normal traffic should be ask in the Ohio forum.

could it be that the listed frequencies in the database are not complete? 4 frequencies for 2 township's fire, police, and more? Seems (and sounds) like there should be more. I get a lot of traffic from a neighboring townships trunking system.

Don't know, put the question in Ohio forum noting where the system is (Butler County) or better yet, paste the URL in the quarry window.
