• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Has anyone successfully configured this radio with a Ham DMR system? I picked one of these up and I've been banging my head against the wall, with a working and valid UV390 codeplug and can't get this radio to bring up any repeater talkgroups or receive/decode any talkgroups. The same codeplug has been verified in another UV380 and worked fine, but this one for whatever reason is a no-go for me.

I purchased two for eval. It was my first time mucking with DMR. I used Editcp as the TYT CP software is hot garbage. (Google "Farnsworth Editcp"). Super easy to create codeplugs and import CSV for formatting. The only thing EditCP won't do is AES256 enc configuration (most won't need to use that anyway).

Search for a youtube channel called "PNWRadio". He has a video with a walkthrough of EditCP specifically for TYT MD-389/390 and MD-UV380/390.

Good luck.

For my issue, I updated in another thread on my experience and resolution. My blocking issue was that the radio was TX locked to commercial freq's, and despite programming to the correct repeater frequency pairs in channels, it was setting them to 450.000Mhz in the radio. Quick two small side button hold while powering on unlocks it (google video for this unlock procedure). My experience has been good since then, volume is a little finicky and the beeps are always too loud. Besides CPS software usability challenges for programming as others have noted, and the other software is MUCH more friendly, radio operates and works well on DMR, both with repeater and hot-spot.

I have two of these radios at this point. Got one in August 2023 and one just now in December 2023.

They both have the same firmware and MCU versions. They are exactly like my MD-UV390 GPS (non plus) but they can encrypt with AES256.

My Aug radio came with a standard 2200mAh battery. My December radio came with a 2800mAh battery that has built in USB C charging.

There is also a 3800mAh battery out there. I have two of them. They are the same physical size as the 2800 but lack the built in charger.

I have the plus version on order. What's the general consensus on programming software? What's the easiest to use, has the fewest cable issue etc?

I have the non plus version. It works good on DMR. one thing it won't do is in the VFO mode you can't toggle between analog and digital. You have to set that up in the software so when you go to VFO that's the mode it will be in. I use it with a Hotspot and a Verizon jetpack
